This poncho is made of Lana Grossa Cotton Mix 130, a soft yarn made of 50% cotton and 50% acrylic. The needle size suitable for this yarn is 3,5 - 4 mm, but for this poncho we will use larger (Tunisian) crochet hooks. Because Tunisian stitches are more compact, you'll need a larger hook for a nice and supple result.

Extra explanation pattern:

When using the Tunisian crochet technique, you use forward and return passes. These 2 passes together form one row. In 10 weeks you will finish this poncho. Each week a square is made for the back and front.

For some stitches, crochet hook no. 6mm will be used because these stitches are more compact than others. You’ll notice that your work will tend to curl while crocheting. After spray blocking and assembling the poncho this will not be visible anymore.

Frequently Asked Questions Tunisian Poncho CAL:

  • What are the measurements of this poncho?
The poncho is about 68 x 68 cm, measured lying flat with the front and back on top of each other. Each square will be about 20 x 20 cm, which can slightly differ per stitch (max. deviation of 2 cm).
  • How can I make this poncho larger or smaller?
You can adjust the size of the poncho but consider the following points:
    - The number of stitches must be a multiple of 2.
    - Keep measuring your work until you've got a good square. When you've got your first square (Tunisian simple stitch) the size you want you can apply the same number of stitches and rows for the other squares.
    - Note that with squares 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 you'll need to cast on one stitch less because this stitch will be picked up at the edges.
  • Will these patterns remain published online?
Yes! These patterns can always be found at this blog. This way you can keep up with our CAL in your own pace.
  • Why are there 10 weeks and only 9 stitches?
The last week we'll tell you all about how to assembly the poncho and we'll be giving it the final finishing touch by adding a border.
