For this trendy hat we have used Rico's Essentials Big. This yarn is nice and soft, suitable for needles 7-8 and available in many cheerful colours. We have chosen beige (Nr.12) as our base colour, but there are enough colours to vary with. Finish it with a fierce neon colour to complete your fashionable look. How neon will you go?
What do you need?
Materials:
- 4 balls Rico Essentials Big colour 12
- 1 balls Rico Essentials Big colour 25, 28 en 32
- Crochet hook nr. 8 and 10 mm
- Pompon colour 21
Stitches used:
ch. = chain
sl.st. = slip stitch
sc. = single crochet
hdc. = half double crochet
dc. = double crochet
trc. = triple crochet
Crab stitch (or reversed single crochet)
Note: for this pattern we have used American crochet terms.
Crochet Pattern Hat:
Use crochet hook nr. 10. Start with a magic ring and crochet 12 hdc with the beige colour.
2nd row: hdc. 2 in each stitch. (24 hdc.)
3th row: *hdc. 1, next stitch hdc. 2* Repeat *-* (36 hdc.) Change colour (pink).
4th row: ch. 4 (=1st trc.), trc. 2 in same stitch, *dc.1, hdc.1, sc. 1, hdc.1, dc.1, trc. 3 in same stitch.* Repeat *-* End with a sl.st in the upper chain. Change colour (ochre)
5th row: ch. 2, * sc. 3 in the middle trc., sc.2, crochet the next 3 dc. together as 1 dc. (= dc. cluster stitch), sc.2* Repeat *-* End with a sl.st in the upper chain.
6th row: ch. 2, *sc.1, sc.3 in the middle of the 3 sc., sc.2, crochet the next 3 dc. together as 1 dc. (= dc. cluster stitch), sc.2* Repeat *-* End with a sl.st. in the upper chain. Cast off and change colour (beige).
7th row: Cast on the yarn in the middle of the 3 sc. and ch. 2. *Cluster hdc.1, dc.1, trc.3 together in the next 3 stitches, dc.1, hdc.1, sc.1* Repeat *-* End with a sl.st. and change colour (neon orange).
8th row: ch. 2. (=1st hdc.), hdc.35 (36 hdc.) End with a sl.st. and cast off. Change colour (pink).
9th row: ch. 4. (= 1st trc.), trc.2 in the stitch of row 8 that is straight above a sc. of row 7. *dc.1, hdc.1, sc.1, hdc.1, dc.1, trc.3 in the same stitch.* Repeat *-* End with a sl.st. in the upper chain. Change colour (ochre).
10th - 11th row: Same as row 5 and 6. Change colour (beige).
12th row: same as row 7. Change colour (neon orange).
13th row: same as row 8. Change colour (beige).
14 throw: crochet 36 sl.st. in the front loops.
15th row: sc.36 in the back loops of row 13.
16th - 17th row: sc.36
18th row: 36 crabstitch: work from left to right, instead of right to left. Insert your crochet hook, from front to back, in the next stitch to the right. Make sure that the right side of the work is facing you. Yarn over and draw the yarn through the stitch. Yarn over and draw the yarn through the 2 loops on the hook.
Attach the pompon on the hat as a finishing touch.
Crochet Pattern Mittens:
The right hand mitten is described in the pattern below. The left hand mitten is almost the same, but there where the row is different use the italic pattern in between the brackets.
Start with the edge, with crochet hook 8 and colour beige.
Edge: Ch. 8 + 1 turning chain. (Crochet a turning chain after each row).
1st row: sc. 8.
2nd - 17th row: sc. 8. in the back loops. After the last row, do not cast off but crochet your turning chain.
Hand: Continue with crochet hook 10.
1st row: sc.18, divided on the long side of your edge. Change colour (neon orange).
2nd row: sc.18. Change colour (pink).
3th row: sc. 18. Change colour (ochre).
4th row: sc. 18. Change colour (beige).
5th row: sc. 9, sc. 2 in the next stitch, sc. 2 in the next stitch, sc. 7. (sc. 7, sc. 2 in the next stitch, sc. 2 in the next stitch, sc.9.).
6th row: sc. 20.
7th row: sc. 9, sc. 2 in the next stitch, sc. 2, sc. 2 in the next stitch, sc. 7. (sc. 7, sc. 2 in the next stitch, sc. 2, sc. 2 in the next stitch, sc. 9).
8th row: sc. 22.

10th row: sc. 8, ch. 1, skip 6 stitches, sc. 10 (thumbhole). (sc.10, ch.1, skip 6 stitches, sc.8).
11th row: sc. 19 incl. the ch.
12th - 16th row: sc. 19.
17th row: cluster 2 sc., sc. 5, cluster 2 sc., sc. 1, cluster 2 sc, sc. 5, cluster 2 sc. (15 sc).
18th row: sc.15.
19th row: cluster 2 sc., sc. 3, cluster 2 sc., sc. 1, cluster 2 sc., sc, 3, cluster 2 sc. (11 sc).
20th row: sc.11.
21th row: cluster 2 sc., sc. 1, cluster 2 sc., sc.1, cluster 2 sc., sc. 1, cluster 2 sc. Cast off.
Thumb:
1st row: sc. 8, divide them over the thumb hole.
2nd - 4th row: sc. 8.
5th row: cluster 2 sc. Repeat 6 times. Cast off.
Pull your yarn through the last stitches and cast off.
At last, sew on the inside the sides of the mittens together.
