Knitting Socks - With the winter season approaching, warm socks are here to stay. At least, when you still have them. If you don't, it is about time to arm yourself with some wool and knitting needles. Follow this pattern and before you know it you will have a pair of beautiful socks to keep your feet warm!
Knitting socks used to be a grandmother's chore, but how fun is it to knit your own? With this cool pattern of Phildar you can make a pair of trendy socks, that even look beautiful in an open shoe. Of course they are nice and warm, and you can style them according to your own taste by picking your favourite colours. Phil Folk, the yarn used for these socks, is available in 35 different colours! Materials:
- 2 balls Phildar Phil Folk 50 for size 28 till 38

- 1 set of 4 needles or circular knitting needles no. 2

- 1 cable needle

Stitches used:
- Rib stitch 2/2
- Stocking stitch
- Moss stitch:
1st row.: *1 knit, 1 purl*, repeat *-*.
2nd and 4th row.: knit the stitches the way they are on your needle.
3rd row.: *1 purl, 1 knit*, repeat *-*.
Repeat these 4 rows. You knit the stitches reversed every 2nd row.
- Fantasy stitch (see chart)
- 2 stitches knitted together
- Pass slip stitch over: slip 1 stitch knit wise, 1 knit and pass the slipped stitch over the knit stitch.
- Double decrease with marked stitch: knit over 3 stitches (marked stitch is the middle one), 3 knit together or 3 purl together in compliance with the moss stitch.
Trial patch:
10 cm moss stitch. With needle no. 2,5 = 30 stitches and 45 rows. The 23 stitches of the fantasy stitch needle no. 2,5 = 6 cm.

Shaft: Cast on a) 64 b) 68 c) 76 d) 80 e) 88 stitches with needle no. 2 and close the loop; mark the first stitch with a stitch ring marker or a coloured thread (= middle of the inside).
Knit 4 cm (20 rows) in rib stitch 2/2.
Then knit moss stitch and fantasy stitch (see chart) with needle no. 2,5 a) 21 b) 23 c) 27 d) 29 e) 33 stitches moss stitch, the 23 stitches of the chart and a) 20 b) 22 c) 26 d) 28 e) 32 stitches in moss stitch.
Make with the marked stitch (see used stitches)
a) every 10th row: 6x1 double decrease.
b) every 14th row: 3x1 double decrease and every 12th row 3x1 double decrease.
c) every 12th row: 8x1 double decrease.
d) every 14th row: 7x1 double decrease and 12 rows up 1x1 double decrease.
e) every 14th row: 3x1 double decease and every 12th row 7x1 double decrease.
Remaining a) 52 b) 56 c) 60 d) 64 e) 68 stitches.
Meanwhile at a height of a) 13,5 cm (62 rows) b) 18 cm (82 rows) c) d) 22,5 cm (102 rows) e) 27 cm (122 rows) after the rib stitch, knit all stitches in moss stitch.
At a height of a) 15,5 cm (70 rows) b) 20 cm (90 rows) c) 23,5 cm (106 rows) d) 27 cm (122 rows) e) 30,5 cm (138 rows) after rib stitch, for the heel on both sides put on hold the last a) 26 b) 28 c) 30 d) 32 e) 34 stitches for the upper side of the foot, and knit with the first a) 26 b) 28 c) 30 d) 32 e) 34 stitches.
Knit stocking stitch and put on hold every 2nd row on both sides: a) 6x1 b) 6x1 c) 7x1 d) 7x1 e) 8x1 stitches.
When there are a) 14 b) 16 c) 16 d) 18 e) 18 stitches remaining, on both sides of the stitches, knit up every 2nd row: a) 6x1 b) 6x1 c) 7x1 d) 7x1 e) 8x1 stitches.
You have a) 26 b) 28 c) 30 d) 32 e) 34 stitches.
Knit up the a) 26 b) 28 c) 30 d) 32 e) 34 stitches put on hold for the upper side of the foot and knit in moss stitch.
Remaining a) 52 b) 56 c) 60 d) 64 e) 68 stitches.
At a height of a) 9 cm (40 rows) b) 11,5 cm (52 rows) c) 14 cm (64 rows) d) 16,5 cm (74 rows) e) 19 cm (86 rows), for the toes in stocking stitch count: a) 26 b) 28 c) 30 d) 32 e) 34 stitches for the underside, and the same for the upperside.
Start decreasing as followed: 1 stitch, 1 passed over stitch, repeat this for a) 20 b) 22 c) 24 d) 26 e) 28 stitches, knit to stitches together, 2 stitches, 1 passed over stitch, repeat this for a) 20 b) 22 c) 24 d) 26 e) 28 stitches, knit 2 stitches together and 1 stitch.
Repeat this decrease every 2nd row neatly above each other. When there are a) 8 b) 8 c) 10 d) 10 e) 12 remaining, close the upper and under side with grafting
Knit the left foot sock in reversed way.
