There's finally some sunshine and we may not forget about our little ones this season. Now what's more fun than dressing your little one with this fashionable DIY crocheted cardigan?

These cardigans are made of the super soft, 100% cotton yarn Rico Creative Cotton Aran. This aran weight yarn is known for its strong and easy-care cotton fibres, making it perfect for creating cool, breathable and shape retaining summer clothes! Combine it with the Cotton Print for a funky twist or created a beautiful striped effect using 2 alternate colours. Pick your favourite colour combinations and make sure your favourite boy or girl is ready for summer!

What do you need?

Materials Baby Cardigan 1:
- 1 balls Rico Creative Cotton Aran colours 32, 37, 74, 00, 13
- 2 balls Rico Creative Cotton Print colour 04
- Crochet hook size 3 and 4 mm

Materials Baby Cardigan 2:
- 1 ball Rico Creative Cotton Aran colour 13 and 74
- 2 balls Rico Creative Cotton Aran colour 5
- Phildar Ice Cream Cone Patch Yellow
-Crochet hook no. 3 and 4


Stitches used:
ch = chain stitch
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
v st (v stitch) = hdc, ch, hdc in the same st

Baby Cardigan - Free Crochet Pattern:

Front and back:
Attention: the pattern is the same for all 3 sizes up to and incl. row 9.

End each row with a turning ch. Work the first st. of each row in de same st. as your turning ch.

Sizes: 62, 74 and 86
Ch 47 plus 2 turning ch. using crochet hook 4mm.
Row 1: starting in the 3rd ch from your hook, work hdc 5, v st, hdc 9, v st, hdc 14, v st, hdc 9, v st, hdc 6 (= 56 sts).
Row 2: hdc 7, v st, hdc 3, hdc2tog, hdc 1, hdc2tog, hdc 3, v st, hdc 16, v st, hdc 3, hdc2tog, hdc 1, hdc2tog, hdc 3, v st, hdc 7 (= 60 sts).
Row 3: hdc 8, v st, hdc 11, v st, hdc 18, v st, hdc 11, v st, hdc 8 (= 68 sts).
Row 4: hdc 9, v st, hdc 13, v st, hdc 20, v st, hdc 13, v st, hdc 9 (= 76 sts).
Row 5: hdc 10, v st, hdc 4, hdc2tog, hdc 3, hdc2tog, hdc 4, v st, hdc 22, v st, hdc 4, hdc2tog, hdc 3, hdc2tog, hdc 4, v st, hdc 10 (= 80 sts).
Row 6: hdc 11, v st, hdc 15, v st, hdc 24, v st, hdc 15, v st, hdc 11 (= 88 sts).
Row 7: hdc 12, v st, hdc 17, v st, hdc 26, v st, hdc 17, v st, hdc 12 (= 96 sts).
Row 8: hdc 13, v st, hdc 5, hdc2tog, hdc 5, hdc2tog, hdc 5, v st, hdc 28, v st, hdc 5, hdc2tog, hdc 5, hdc2tog, hdc 5, v st, hdc 13 (= 100 sts).
Row 9: hdc 14, v st, hdc 19, v st, hdc 30, v st, hdc 19, v st, hdc 14 (= 108 sts).
Row 10: hdc 16, ch 5, skip 21 sts, hdc 34, ch 5, skip 21 st, hdc 16. You have 16 sts for the front, 5 under the arm, 34 for the back, 5 under the arm, 16 for the other front (= 76 sts).
Rows 11-30: hdc 76. Cut the yarn and pull through the loop.

Size 74:?
Row 10: hdc 15, v st, hdc 21, v st, hdc 32, v st, hdc 21, v st, hdc 15 (= 116 sts).
Row 11: hdc 17, ch 5, skip 23 sts, hdc 36, ch 5, skip 23 st, hdc 17. You have 17 sts for the front, 5 under the arm, 36 for the back, 5 under the arm, 17 for the other front (= 80 sts).
Rows 12-33: hdc 80. Cut the yarn and pull through the loop.

Size 86:?
Row 10: hdc 15, v st, hdc 21, v st, hdc 32, v st, hdc 21, v st, hdc 15 (= 116 sts).
Row 11: hdc 16, v st, hdc 23, v st, hdc 34, v st, hdc 23, v st, hdc 16 (= 124 sts).
Row 12: hdc 18, ch 5, skip 25 sts, hdc 38, ch 5, skip 25 st, hdc 18. You have 18 sts for the front, 5 under the arm, 38 for the back, 5 under the arm, 18 for the other front (= 84 sts).
Rows 13-36: hdc 84. Cut the yarn and pull through the loop.

Straight Sleeves (baby cardigan 1):
Use crochet hook 4mm.
Attach the yarn in the armhole.
Row 1: hdc 26-28-30.
Rows 2-5: hdc 26-28-30.
Row 6: sc 26-28-30 with crcohet hook 3mm and colour 37.

Sleeves with Picot Edging (baby cardigan 2):
Use crochet hook 4mm
Cast on a new yarn at the shoulder of the sleeves.
Row 1: Sc. 7(8, 8), hdc. 7 (7, 9) and sc. 7 (8, 8) You'll get 21 (23, 25 sts.) and tch. 1.
Row 2: Sc. 2 tog. Sc. 6 (7, 7), hdc. 5 (6, 8), sc. 6 (7, 7) and sc. 2 tog. Cast off.
Row 3: Cast on in the joining of the armpit a new yarn of colour red and sc. 1 on the sides of the first 2 rows to get to the first st. Work *sc. 5 in the first st., skip 1 st., sl.st. 1 in the next st.*. Repeat from *to*, until the end of the round. Sc. 1 to the join the armpit. You've worked 7 (7, 8) arches in total. Cast off and weave in all ends.

Finishing:
Use crochet hook 3mm and colour 37.

Work a row of sc’s along the front, back and neck. Work 35 ch cords on both sides of the front, to close the cardigan. Finally, make 2 pompoms to attach to the cords.
