Advent Star CAL - December is almost here and so it's time to count down until it's Christmas. Using an Advent calendar to countdown the days till Christmas eve is so much fun and after last year's Advent CAL we couldn't resist to create a gorgeous new Advent Crochet Along. From December 1st we will be giving away small free crochet patterns to decorate our latest Advent Calendar design. Of course we need a showstopper to hang our ornaments in so we've crocheted a beautiful Christmas star. Join us again in the Advent Star CAL and get going with the free patterns! Let's start with the Christmas star first! This star is such a delight to crochet and decorate your house with. The base is made of the acrylic yarn Katia Alaska and has a beautiful sparkling border of byClaire Sparkle. The crochet work has been strengthened with cardboard, such that you can hang it on your wall, window or door!

What do you need for the Advent Star CAL?
For making the Advent Star only you'll need the following materials:
- 3 balls Katia Alaska colour 9
- 1 ball Durable Glam colour 2231
- Crochet hook no. 5mm and 7mm
- Piece of Cardboard

The Advent Star consists of 5 separate points which will be joined in the end. We're starting with making 1 point of Katia Alaska and crochet hook no. 7 mm.

Work a same point at the remaining 13 sts. of row 35, but work in reversed way.
Row 1: Cast on a new yarn in the sc. next to the last crocheted point (row 35) and sc. 11, sc. 2 tog. (12 sts.)

Row 3: Sc. 2 tog., sc. 7, sc. 2 tog. (9 sts.)

Cast off.
Work a last round of sc. around the point. At the acute angles sc. 2, ch. 1, sc. 2 in 1 st. and at the obtuse angles sc. 2 in 1 st.
Work 5 points this way.
Now we're going to join the 5 points with sl.st. at the right side of your work (see the yellow stripes at the above picture). Insert in both points only in the outside loops of the edges. This way you'll get a star with an open star shaped space in the middle.
Take crochet hook 5mm and the Durable Glam and work a border of reversed single crochets around the inside and the outside edges.
Spray block the star such that all edges are nicely straight and let it dry.
When your work is dry, put the star at the cardboard and draw the shape of the star onto the cardboard. Cut it out of the cardboard, make the edges slightly shorter such that the cardboard won't be showing when you attach the crocheted star.
Last, to secure the star to the cardboard apply double-sided tape to the star and its points, attach it to the cardboard and press it firmly.
