We made this hat and snood with a combination of Katia Azteca and Katia Peru. Don't you love this combination of colours? The Katia Azteca does not only has a nice chunkiness to work with but also the composition of the thread keeps you comfortably warm. The twined structure of this wool and acrylic blend makes it strong and shape resistant, such that you can wear these fall accessories as often as you like. Katia Peru is a lightweight yarn that gives an extra soft touch to this scarf, giving you the ultimate comfort when wearing it. The shell pattern and the pompons on the hat give these crocheted accessories a playful look. Combine them with a denim or leather jacket, or wear then together with a sturdy winter coat for the ultimate fall look!

Materials

• 2x Katia Azteca colour 858
• 2x Katia Peru colour 37
• Crochet hook no. 7 and 8mm
• Pompon maker size small

Stitches used

Ch.         = Chain
Sl.st.      = Slip stitch
Sc.          = Single crochet
Hdc.      = Half double crochet
Dc.         = Double crochet
Trc.        = Triple crochet
Fpdc.     = Front post double crochet (insert from front to back around the dc. of the previous row and make a dc.)

Size snood: 70 x 32 cm.
Size hat: 22 x 30 cm.

The foundation chain of the snood and hat must be a multiple of 8.
When repeating rounds 3 and 4 alternate from crochet hook. Use crochet hook 7mm for round 3 and crochet hook 8mm for round 4.

Katia Azteca Snood - Free Crochet Pattern

Ch. 176 with Katia Peru and crochet hook no. 8 mm and close to a ring with a sl.st. in the first ch. Make sure your chain does not turn when closing it.

Round 1: With crochet hook no. 7mm, ch. 2 (= 1 dc.), dc. 175. Close with sl.st. 1 in the upper ch. and change colours. Do not cut the blue yarn.
Round 2: With crochet hook no. 8mm, ch. 2 (= 1 sc.), skip 3 sts., dc. 7 in the next st., *skip 3 sts., sc. 1, skip 3 sts., dc. 7 in the next st.* Repeat from *to* until the end of the round. Close with sl.st. 1 in the upper ch. and change colours. Do not cut the mixed yarn.
Round 3: Ch. 4 (= 1 trc.), ch. 5, trc. 1 in the same st., sc. 1 in the middle of the 7 dc., *trc. 1, ch. 5, trc. 1 in the sc. of the previous round, sc. 1 in the middle of the 7 dc.* Repeat from *to* until the end of the round. Close with sl.st. 1 in the upper ch. Do not change colours just yet.
Round 4: Sl.st. 1 in the first ch. of the 5-ch. space, sl.st. 1 in the next ch. and change colours, sc. 1 in the next ch., dc. 7 in the next st. *sc. 1 in the middle of the 5 ch., dc. 7 in the next st.* Repeat from *to* until the end of the round. Close with a sl.st. in the upper ch. and change colours.
Rounds 5 - 18: Repeat rounds 3 and 4 alternately.
Round 19: Ch. 4 (= 1 trc.) *In the next 7 sts. of the shell work trc. 1, dc. 1, hdc. 1, sc. 1, hdc. 1, dc. 1, trc. 1, in the sc. in between two shells trc. 1* Repeat from *to* until the end of the round.

To finish, work a round of sl.st. on the top and bottom edges with crochet hook no. 7mm and colour blue.

Katia Azteca Hat - Free Crochet Pattern

With Katia Azteca and crochet hook no. 8mm ch. 48 and close to a ring with a sl.st. in the first ch.

Round 1: With crochet hook no. 7mm ch. 2 (= 1 dc.), dc. 47. Close with a sl.st. in the upper ch.
Round 2: Ch. 2 (= 1 dc.), fpdc. 1, *dc. 1, fpdc. 1.* Repeat from *to* until the end of the round. Close with a sl.st. in the upper ch.
Round 3 - 4: Repeat round 2.
Round 5: With crochet hook no. 8 mm ch. 2 (= 1 sc.), skip 3 sts., dc. 7 in the next st., *skip 3 sts., sc. 1, skip 3 sts., dc. 7 in the next st.* Repeat from *to* until the end of the round. Close with a sl.st. in the upper ch.
Round 6: With crochet hook no. 7mm ch. 4 (= 1 trc.), ch. 5, trc. 1 in the same st., sc. 1 in the middle  of the 7 dc., *trc. 1, ch. 5, trc. 1 in the sc. of the previous round, sc. in the middle of the 7 dc.* Repeat from *to* until the end of the round. Close with a sl.st. in the upper ch.
Round 7: Sl.st. 1 in the first ch. of the 5-ch. space, sl.st. 1 in the next ch., sc. 1 in the next st., dc. 7 in the next st. *sc. 1 in the middle of the 5 ch., dc. 7 in the next st.* Repeat from *to* until the end of the round. Close with a sl.st. in the sc.
Rounds 8 -  17: Repeat round 6 and 7 alternately. Cast off.

To finish, work an edge around the hat with Katia Peru and crochet hook no. 7mm. Sc. 1 and sl.st. 1 in each st.

With Katia Peru and crochet hook no. 8mm ch. 50. Draw the chain through round 14 of the hat and pull it tight. Make 2 pompons with Katia Azteca and attach them to the ends of the chain.
