This colourful Granny Square blanket will cheer up any home interior! The classic granny square finds its roots in the seventies, but the last couple of years we see this beautiful pattern pop up in home deco, accessories and even in fashion. This lovely cosy blanket is the perfect home accessory for the colder fall and winter days to come. And the best? Even novice crocheters can make this Granny Square Blanket!
This blanket consists of small squares in different colour combinations. Each square has a round middle, is made the same way and will later on be joined at the corners. We used different colours of Phildar Partner 6, a lovely warm and lightweight yarn. Choose bright and bold colours like these or go for a whole other combination! Partner 6 is available in 49 colours, so there are plenty of possible colour schemes.
Materials
- 3 balls Phildar Partner 6 colour 111, 037, 110, 041, 204 and 208
- 1 ball Phildar Partner 6 colour 21
- 13 balls Phildar Partner 6 colour 32 (ecru)
- Crochet hook no. 6,5mm
Size:
Granny Square: 14 x 14 cm.
Blanket: +- 125 x 180 cm including the border
Work the granny squares the following way in different colour combinations
- Work 6 x 20 cores: each colour has 20 cores.
- Divide the 120 cores in the 5 colours and work round 2.
- Sort the rounds in colour (4 cores per colour, 5 piles) and divide them over the other 4 colours, such that no colour is double. Put all the rounds in a bag with the right ball and work round 3 with colour light blue (021).
- Work round 4 and 5 light blue. Attach the squares to each other in round 5, by making sl.st. at the indicated points on the pattern chart.
Granny Square Blanket - Free Crochet Pattern
Note: the turning chains are not counted as stitches. They are only used to get the height needed for the other stitches.
Start with a magic ring or ch. 4 and close to a ring with a sl.st. in the first ch.
Round 1: Work in the ring: Ch. 3, *dc. 1, ch. 1, dc. 1* Repeat from *to* another 9x. Ch. 1 and sl.st. 1 in the first ch. space.
Round 2: Cast on a new yarn in a ch. of the previous round. Ch. 2, dc. 2 tog., *Ch. 2. skip 1 st., dc. 3 tog.,* Repeat from *to* another 10x. Ch. 2 and sl.st. 1 in the first st.
Round 3: Cast on a new yarn in a ch. space of the previous round. Ch. 2, *Dc. 3, insert in the next ch. space.* Repeat from *to* another 11x. Sl.st. 1 in the first st.
Round 4: Cast on a new yarn between 2 groups of 3 dc. Ch. 1, *Sc. 1, ch. 4, skip 3 st.* Repeat from *to* another 11x. Close with a sl.st. in the first st.
Round 5: Cast on a new yarn in the ch. space of the previous round. Ch. 1, *Sc. 1, ch. 3; dc. 3, ch. 3 dc. 3 in the next ch. space; ch. 3; sc. 1, ch. 3 in the next ch. space; insert in the next ch. space* Repeat from *to* 3x. Close with a sl.st. in the first st.
The border of the blanket
Cast on a new yarn in the corner. Ch. 1, (sc. 1, ch. 3, sc. 1, skip 3 sts.), *Sc. 1, ch. 3, skip 3 sts.* Repeat from *to* until you have worked the whole blanket. Work the pattern in between ( ) in the corners.
