Honeycomb Brioche Cushion - Free Knitting Pattern

Materials:
- 4 balls Katia Alaska colour 17
- Knitting needles no. 7
- Pillow 50 x 50 cm

Stitches used:
Honeycomb Brioche Stitch = the honeycomb brioche stitch is made with an even number of stitches and consists of 4 rows that continually will be repeated.
- Row 1: *Knit 1 st., knit 1 brioche st. (knit 1 st. but insert deeper below the stitch)* Repeat from *to* until the end of the row. The last stitch is a brioche stitch, whereby you leave the extra loop on your needle.
- Row 2: Knit the loop that is still on your right needle with the first stitch on your left needle. *Knit 1 st., draw up the loop of the brioche stitch of the previous row and put it back on your right needle. Knit this stitch together with the next stitch on your left needle (= brioche)* Repeat from *to* until the end of the row.
- Row 3: *Knit 1 brioche st., knit 1 st.* Repeat from *to* until the end of the row.
- Row 4: *Knit 1 st., draw up the loop of the brioche stitch of the previous row and put it back on your right needle.  Knit this stitch together with the next stitch on your left needle (= brioche)* Repeat from *to* until the end of the row.

Tip: Lost track on which stitch to knit next? At the back of your work (where you see garter) you always need to draw up the loops from the previous row. At the front of your work you knit the normal brioche by inserting deeper below the stitch. If you do not know whether to knit brioche or a normal knit stitch then take a look at the number of loops around the next stitch on your needle. When there is only one loop then you need to knit a brioche stitch. When there are 2 loops you need to make a normal knit stitch.

Swatch: 10 x 10 cm in honeycomb brioche = 10 sts. and 20 rows

Knitting a Pillow: how to?

Cast on 50 sts. with knitting needles no. 7mm and knit 1 row. Continue with knitting 100 rows in honeycomb brioche like is explained above. For row 101 (at the right side of your work) cast off all stitches. Start with knitting 1 st., 1 brioche st., and repeat this until the end of the row, but knit the last st.

Knit a second same patch.

Put the patches with the right sides on each other and sew the sides of the cushion together, leaving one side open. Insert the pillow in the cover and neatly sew the last seam at the top.
