We used this little Epic basket as a fruit basket but of course you can use it for many more purposes. What do you think about a plant holder, decorate your nursury with it or use it for storing your favorourite balls of yarn. magazines. This basket is super easy to make with Yarn and Colors Epic. This matt 100% cotton yarn gives each project a unique loop and gives the basket enough strength such that it stands up. We chose a combination of Petrol Blue and Mint, a trendy colour that can be seen in more home decorations. Not into this colour combination? No problem, Yarn and Colors Epic is available in 100 different colours.
Materials:
- 5 balls Yarn and Colors Epic Petrol Blue (69)
- 3 balls Yarn and Colors Epic Jade Gravel (73)
- Crochet hook no. 5,5 and 6mm
Stitches used:
- Ch. = Chain
- Sc. = Single crochet
- Sl.st. = Slip stitch
- Fantasy stitch: Insert your hook in the next stitch draw up a loop with colour Petrol Blue (colour A). Insert your hook back in the stitch and draw up a loop with colour Jade Gravel (colour B). You have 3 loops on your hook, yarn over with colour B and draw through all 3 loops on your hook.
Epic Basket - Free Crochet Pattern
The whole basket is made using a double strand of Yarn and Colors Epic. For a nice and sturdy effect you use a hook a size smaller. For the bottom we used a double strand of Petrol Blue and crochet hook no. 5,5mm.
Round 1: Sc. 6 in a magic ring or start the following way. Ch. 2, sc. 6 in the first ch., sl.st. 1 in the first sc. such that you get a round of sc. (6 sts.)
Round 2: Sc. 2. in each st. (12 sts.)
Round 3: Sc. 2. in each 2nd st. (18 sts.)
Round 4: Sc. 1 *sc. 2 in the next st., sc. 2*. Repeat from *to* until the end of the round but end with sc. 1 (24 sts.)
Round 5: Sc. 2 in each 4rd st. (30 sts.)
Round 6: Sc. 2 *sc. 2 in the next st., sc. 4*. Repeat from *to* until the end of the round but end with sc. 2 (36 sts.)
Round 7: Sc. 2 in each 6th st. (42 sts.)
Round 8: Sc. 3 *sc. 2 in the next st., sc. 6*. Repeat from *to* until the end of the round but end with sc. 3 (48 sts.)
Round 9: Sc. 2 in each 8th st. (54 sts.)
Round 10: Sc. 4 *sc. 2 in the next st., sc. 8*. Repeat from *to* until the end of the round but end with sc. 6 (60 sts.)
Round 11: Sc. 2 in each 10th st. (66 sts.)
Round 12: Sc. 5 *sc. 2 in the next st., sc. 10*. Repeat from *to* until the end of the round but end with sc. 5 (72 sts.)
Round 13: Sc. 2 in each 12th st. (78 sts.)
Round 14: Sc. 6 *sc. 2 in the next st., sc. 12*. Repeat from *to* until the end of the round but end with sc. 6 (84 sts.)
Round 15: Sc. 2 in each 14th st. (90 sts.)
Round 16: Work this round in the back loops only such that you get single loops on the outside of your work. Sc. each 14th and 15th st. tog. (84 sts.)
Rounds 17 - 23: Continue with crochet hook no. 6mm.
From here on continue with the fantasy stitch. Take a look at the video for a tutorial (in dutch) After round 23 cast off and weave in the loose ends.
Cast on a new double strand of Petrol Blue at the edge. Work with crochet hook no. 5,5mm.
Rounds 1 - 10: Sc. 84 each round (84 sts.)
Round 11: Sl.st. 84. Cast off and weave in the loose ends. Fold your edge from the inside to the outside.
