Diamonds are a girl's best friend! Or do you (not so) secretly prefer yarn? Either way, read on because it's time to add another chapter to our on-going WIP (work-in-progress), the Yarnplaza stitch library. This month, it’s gorgeous and it’s bling. It’s time for knitting diamond stitch! This stitch certainly looks as classy as it sounds. And our Stitch of the Month tutorial is sure to take you from rough diamond to brilliant-cut knitter.

Knitting diamond stitch – It’s May already, which means it’s time for a new Stitch of the Month. And this time we’re taking a closer look at the knitted diamond stitch. It may look complicated, but this stitch is actually super straightforward to knit. The diamond stitch takes its name from the angular bumps that emerge in the knitted fabric.  All these little diamonds come together to produce a wonderful sturdy structure, perfect for making a throw blanket or a decorative cushion for your sofa!

Abbreviations used

edge st                = edge stitch

The diamond stitch is made up of a 4-row repeat, using multiples of 2.

For our swatch, we cast on 22 sts.

Row 1: Knit all sts.

Row 2: 1 edge st, purl all the sts, ending with 1 edge st.

Row 3: 1 edge st, k2tog until the end of the row, ending with 1 edge st.

Row 4: 1 edge st, * k1, M1. * Repeat * to * until the end of the row, ending with 1 edge st.
