The peacock's tail stitch is a ‘golden oldie’ that you frequently find in traditional wear from yesteryear. By combining the peacock's tail stitch with the latest yarns and designs, your accessories and garments evoke pure nostalgia with a modern twist. The best of both worlds!

Abbreviations
k knit
k2tog knit 2 stitches together

LH left-hand (needle)
p purl
p2tog purl 2 stitches together

The peacock's tail stitch is worked using a pattern repeat of 6 rows. To begin, cast on a multiple of 9 stitches. For our swatch, we cast on a total of 18 stitches.
Row 1: *k1, [yo, k1]. Repeat [-] 8 times. Repeat from * until the end of the row.
Row 2: *p1, k15, p1*. Repeat *-* until the end of the row.
Row 3: *k1, k2tog, k11, sl 2 kwise then place them back on the LH needle and knit them together (also known as 'slip slip knit'), k1*. Repeat *-* until the end of the row.
Row 4: *p1, p2tog through the back of the loops, p9, p2tog, p1*. Repeat *-* until the end of the row.
Row 5: *k1, k2tog, k7, sl 2 kwise then place them back on the LH needle and knit them together, k1*. Repeat *-* until the end of the row.
Row 6: *p1, p2tog through the back of the loops, p5, p2tog, p1*. Repeat *-* until the end of the row.
