Abbreviations used:
st(s) = stitch(es)
ch = chain stitch
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet (UK: double crochet)
hdc = half double crochet (UK: half treble crochet)

The dog should be crocheted tightly enough that no stuffing is visible through the stitches. Therefore, use the crochet hook size that best suits your crochet tension.

Head and Body:
Start crocheting from the top of the head.
Round 1: Using Soft Grey work 6sc in a magic ring or begin as follows: ch2, 6sc in the first ch. Sl st into the first sc to create a circle of 6sts (6).
Round 2: Work 2sc in each st (12).
Round 3: Work 2sc in every 2nd st (18).
Round 4: 1sc. * Work 2sc in the next st, 2sc. * Repeat * to *, until the end of the round, but ending with 1sc (24).
Round 5: Work 2sc in every 4th st (30).
Round 6: 30sc (30).
Round 7: 2sc. * Work 2sc in the next st, 4sc. * Repeat * to *, until the end of the round, but ending with 2sc (36).
Round 8: Work 2sc in every 6th st (42).
Round 9: 42sc (42).
Round 10: 3sc. * Work 2sc in the next st, 6sc. * Repeat * to *, until the end of the round, but ending with 3sc (48).
Round 11: 48sc (48).
Round 12: Work 2sc in every 8th st (54).
Rounds 13 – 19: Work 54sc in each round (54).
Round 20: Sc every 8th and 9th st together (48).
Round 21: 48sc (48). Before crocheting further, attach the eyes between rounds 9 and 10, leaving 3 stitches between them.
Round 22: 3sc. * Sc the next 2 sts together, 6sc. * Repeat * to *, until the end of the round (42).

Round 51: Sc every 3rd and 4th st together (18). Before crocheting further, stuff the dog’s body firmly with stuffing.
Round 52: Sc every 2nd and 3rd st together (12). Stuff a little more. Round 53: Sc every 2 sts together (6).
Cast off. Draw the yarn through the last 6 sts and pull tightly to close the hole. Weave in your ends towards the inside.

Dog Snout
Round 1: Using Soft Grey work 6sc in a magic ring or begin as follows: ch2, 6sc in the first ch. Sl st into the first sc to create a circle of 6sts (6).
Round 2: Work 2sc in each st (12).
Round 3: Work 2sc in every 2nd st (18).
Round 4: 1sc. * Work 2sc in the next st, 2sc. * Repeat * to *, until the end of the round, but ending with 1sc (24).
Round 5: Work 2sc in every 4th st (30).
Round 6: 2sc. * Work 2sc in the next st, 4sc. * Repeat * to *, until the end of the round, but ending with 2sc (36).
Round 7: 36sc (36).
Round 8: Work 2sc in every 6th st (42).
Rounds 9 and 10: Work 42sc in each round (42).
Round 11: Decrease 6 sts: sc every 6th and 7th st together (36).
Rounds 12 – 15: Work 36sc in each round (36).
Now place the safety nose between rounds 6 and 7. Check the position of the nose carefully before attaching it. This is now the upper side of the snout. Stuff the snout firmly. Use pins to attach it to the front of the face, under the eyes between rounds 11 and 24. Sew it on securely with little stitches around the base of the snout.

Dog Ears (x2)
Round 1: Using Black work 6sc in a magic ring or begin as follows: ch2, 6sc in the first ch. Sl st into the first sc to create a circle of 6sts (6).
Round 2: Work 2sc in each st (12).
Round 3: Work 2sc in every 2nd st (18).
Round 4: 1sc. * Work 2sc in the next st, 2sc. * Repeat * to *, until the end of the round, but ending with 1sc (24).
Round 5: 24sc (24).
Round 6: Work 2sc in every 4th st (30).
Round 7: 30sc (30).
Round 8: 2sc. * Work 2sc in the next st, 4sc. * Repeat * to *, until the end of the round, but ending with 2sc (36).
Round 9: Work 2sc in every 6th st (42).
Round 10: 42sc (42).
Round 11: Decrease 6 sts: sc every 6th and 7th st together (36).

Round 27: Fold the ear flat and close it up with sl sts.
The ear is not stuffed. Place the ears on both sides by round 4 of the head and attach securely with small stitches.

Legs (x4)
Round 1: Using Creme work 6sc in a magic ring or begin as follows: ch2, 6sc in the first ch. Sl st into the first sc to create a circle of 6sts (6).
Round 2: Work 2sc in each st (12).
Round 3: Work 2sc in every 2nd st (18).
Round 4: 1sc. * Work 2sc in the next st, 2sc. * Repeat * to *, until the end of the round, but ending with 1sc (24).
Round 5: Decrease 6 sts: sc every 3rd and 4th st together (18).
Round 6: Decrease 3 sts: sc every 5th and 6th st together (15).
Round 7: 15sc (15).
Round 8: Decrease 3 sts: sc every 4th and 5th st together (12).
Round 9: 12sc (12). Stuff the paw firmly.
Round 10: Work this round in the back loops of your sts, leaving the 12 front loops unworked on the outside of your work. Decrease 6 sts. Sc every 2 sts together (6).
Cast off and draw the yarn through the last 6 sts and pull tightly to close the hole.

Now, using Soft Grey, cast on a new strand in the front loops of round 10.
Round 1 – 29: Work 12sc in each round (12).
Round 30: Decrease 3 sts: sc every 3rd and 4th st together (9). Fold your work flat and close it up with sl sts.
The legs are not stuffed. Embroider 3 black claws on the creme-colored paws. This also flattens the paws a bit more.
Sew the front legs onto both sides of the head by round 30, using small stitches to attach securely. Sew the back legs onto the body by rounds 49/50, in line with the front legs.

Tail
Round 1: Using Black work 6sc in a magic ring or begin as follows: ch2, 6sc in the first ch. Sl st into the first sc to create a circle of 6sts (6).
Round 2 – 5: Work 6sc in each round (6).
Round 6: Work 2sc in every 2nd st (9).
Round 7 and 8: Work 9sc in each round (9).
Cast off. The tail is not stuffed. Position the tail where you like in the middle of the lower half of the back of the body. Attach securely with small stitches.

Collar
Using Soil, ch 24. Work 22sc into the foundation chain. Work 2sc in the last ch then work 22sc along the other side of the foundation chain.
Cast off. Place the collar around the neck and sew the ends neatly and securely together.

Collar Tag
Using Mustard, ch 2. Now work 9hdc in the first ch, then close the circle with 1 sl st into the first hdc.
Cast off. Weave in the tail from the start of your work, then use the end tail to sew the tag securely to the collar.
