Make 4 hooves in total.

Use Sparkle to crochet the horseshoes. Work in the single loops that were created in Round 5 of each hoof. These should form the bottom edge of the hoof as seen from the front. Make sure that the sloping part of the hoof points towards the front. Sl.st. 18 around, leaving 6 sts. unworked at the back of the hoof. Cast off and weave in the ends. Repeat for the 3 remaining hooves.

Arms
Attach a new yarn in Jade Gravel through the outside loops of Round 9 of a hoof.

Round 1 to 25: Sc. 12 in each round (12).
Round 26: You will now work the arm closed with sl.sts. The arms sit on the side of the body, so make sure that the positioning of the arms allows for the correct position of the hooves. You may need to work in a few sc. to ensure this. Sl.st. 6 to close the opening.
Repeat for the second arm. The arms are not stuffed.

Attach the arms firmly to the side of the body with small stitches.

Legs
The legs are worked in the same way as the arms, but make sure to check the positioning in Round 26. The legs are to be attached to the underside of the body, so you may need to work in a few sc. to get the correct position. Sl.st. 6 to close the opening.

The legs are not stuffed. Attach them securely to the bottom of the body with small stitches.

Horn

Stuff the horn, using the end of your crochet hook to push the stuffing all the way into the tip of the horn. Attach the horn securely to the middle of the front side of the head, between rounds 1 and 8, using small stitches.

Mane
The mane is worked in one piece. If your curls aren’t curling nicely, it may be because you are crocheting too loosely. Try using a half-size smaller crochet hook to achieve the desired effect.

This piece is worked in rows, back and forth. At the end of each row, ch. 1 before turning. This turning ch.st. does not count as the first st. of your next row.

Row 1: Using Pepper ch. 15. Sc. 2 into each ch. back up the chain. It will already start curling on itself. Twist the curl clockwise on itself to enhance the effect. Now ch. 25. Sc. 2 into each of the first 14 ch.sts. from your hook. You now have a second curl on the opposite end of the piece with 10 ch.sts. between them. Now sc. 10 into these remaining ch.sts.
Row 2: Turn your work around. Work this whole row in the front loops to create single loops on the bottom edge of your work. Sc. the 1st 2 sts. tog., *sl.st. 1 into the next st., ch. 15 (the 15th counts as the turning ch.st.). Then sc. 2 in all 14 ch.sts. *. Sc. 4. Repeat * to *. Sc. the last 2 sts. tog.
Row 3: Work this row in the back loops of Row 2. Sc. the first and last 2 sts. together so that you have 8 sts. (8).
Row 4: Work this whole row through the front loops again. Work a curl into the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 8th sts. as follows: Sl.st. 1. Ch. 19 (the 19th counts as the turning ch.st.). Sc. 2 in all 18 ch.sts. In all the remaining sts. between the curls, sc. 1.
Row 5: Change colour to Orange. Sc. 8 in the back loops of Row 4.
Row 6: From this row until the last row we will form the curls using 21 ch.sts. (the 21st ch.st. counts as the turning ch.st.). Sc. 2 in all 20 ch.sts. Work the curls in this row into the 2nd, 4th and 7th sts. In all the remaining sts. between the curls, sl.st. 1.
Row 7: Sc. 8 in the back loops of Row 6.
Row 8: Work a curl into the 1st, 3rd, 6th and 8th sts. In all the remaining sts. between the curls, sl.st. 1.

Repeat Rows 5 to 8 in the following colour order: Sunglow, Pesto, Turquoise, Violet and Deep Cerise. Work 1 more row of sc. in the back loops of the previous row. Cast off.

Now position the mane in place. Spread the first few curls around the horn and lay the flat section along the middle of the back of the head. Now sew it in place securely with small stitches in matching colours.

Tail
Using Pepper * ch. 29 (the 29th ch.st. is the turning ch.st.). Sc. 2 in each ch. *. Change colour to Orange and repeat * to *.
Repeat again with the colours Sunglow, Pesto, Turquoise, Violet and Deep Cerise. Cast off.

Fold the ends of each strip up to the top of the tail and tie each start and end together with a tight knot.

Now use Sparkle to make the base part of the tail as follows:

Round 1: Using Sparkle sc. 6 in a magic ring or start the following way: ch. 2, sc. 6 in the first ch. Sl.st. 1 in the first sc. so that you end up with a round of 6 sts. (6).
Round 2: Sc. 2 in each st. (12).
Round 3: Work this round in the back loops so that single loops are created on the outside of your work. Sc. 12 (12).
Round 4: Sc. 12 (12). Cast off.

Slide the base part over the top ends of tail then thread your end thread through the last 12 sts. of the base and pull tight. Sew the thread through your work a few times to make sure that the base and tail parts are securely attached.

Position the completed tail in the centre of the back side of the unicorn, from Round 43 on. Securely attach it with small stitches through the outer loops of Round 3.

Ears
Round 1: Using Jade Gravel sc. 6 in a magic ring or start the following way: ch. 2, sc. 6 in the first ch. Sl.st. 1 in the first sc. so that you end up with a round of 6 sts. (6).
Round 2: Sc. 2 in the 3rd and 6th sts. (8).
Round 3: Sc. 8 (8).
Round 4: Sc. 2 in the 4th and 8th sts. (10).
Round 5: Sc. 2 in the 5th and 10th sts. (12).
Round 6: Sc. 2 in every 3rd st. (16).
Round 7: Sc. 2 in the 8th and 16th st. (18).
Round 8: Sc. the 8th and 9th, and the 17th and 18th sts. tog. (16).
Round 9: Sc. the 7th and 8th, and the 15th and 16th sts. tog. (14).
Round 10: Sc. the 6th and 7th, and the 13th and 14th sts. tog. (12).

Fold flat. The ear isn’t stuffed. Sl.st. 6 to close the opening. Fold the base of the ear in half (to that the 1st and 6th sl.sts. are together) and sew together with a small stitch. This gives the ear its curved shape.

Repeat for the second ear.

Place the ears towards the back of the head between Rows 3 and 4 of the curls. Attach securely with small stitches.

Star
Round 1: Using Sparkle sc. 10 in a magic ring or start the following way: ch. 2, sc. 10 in the first ch. Sl.st. 1 in the first sc. so that you end up with a round of 10 sts. (10).
Round 2: *Sl.st. 1 and hdc. 1 in the 1st sc. Then ch. 2. Sl.st. 1 in the 1st ch.st. Then hdc. 1 and sl.st. 1 in the 2nd sc. *. Repeat * to * 4 more times until the end of the round. You now have a five-pointed star.
