Katia City is the ideal yarn for the novice knitter. The yarn made of 53% wool and 47% acrylic is easy to work with and because of the funny colour transitions in the yarn itself you do not need to pay attention to colour changes. Ideal for making cheerful scarves, comfy hats and of course the most beautiful cardigans!

 Materials:
Katia City a) 3, b) 4, c) 4, d) 4 balls
Knitting needles 5,5 en 6,5 mm

Stitches used:
- 1x1 Ribbing
- Stockinette st.
- Tubular Ribbing: 1st row: *K 1, yarn forward, slip st purlwise, yarn back * rep from * to *. Always repeat this row.
- Round buttonholes: At the right side of your work, use a yarn over and work 2 stitches together. On the following row at the wrong side of your work, work the yarn over to correspond with the adjoining stitches.

Gauge:
The measurements are taken after carefully blocking the sample swatch.
Using size 5,5 needles in stockinette st.:
10 x 10 cm = 14 sts and 20 rows.

Knitting pattern Katia City Cardigan:

Back:
Using size 6.5 needles cast on a) 64, b) 72, c) 78, d) 84 sts. Work 6 rows in tubular ribbing then change to size 5.5 needles and continue in stockinette st.

Armholes:
When back measures 40 cm cast off at each edge at the beginning of every row:
a) 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 2 times.
b) 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 3 times.
c) 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 4 times.
d) 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 5 times.
Total: a) 50, b) 56, c) 60, d) 64 sts.

Shoulders:
When back measures a) 19 cm, b) 20 cm, c) 21 cm, d) 22 cm in length from start of armhole shaping, cast off at each edge at the beginning of every row:
a) 6 sts 1 time, 4 sts 1 time, 3 sts 1 time.
b) 6 sts 1 time, 4 sts 2 times.
c) 7 sts 1 time, 4 sts 2 times.
d) 8 sts 1 time, 5 sts 1 time, 4 sts 1 time.

Neckline:
When back measures a) 22 cm, b) 23 cm, c) 24 cm, d) 25 cm in length from start of armhole shaping, cast off the remaining a) 24, b) 28, c) 30, d) 30 sts.

Right Front:
Using size 6,5 needles cast on a) 32, b) 36, c) 38, d) 42 sts. Work 6 rows in tubular ribbing then change to needles size 5,5 and continue working in stockinette st.

Armhole:
When right front measures 40 cm, cast off at the left side at the beginning of the wrong side row:
a) 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 2 times.
b) 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 3 times.
c) 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 4 times.
d) 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 5 times.
Total: a) 25, b) 28, c) 29, d) 32 sts.

Neckline:
When right front measures a) 13 cm, b) 14 cm, c) 15 cm, d) 16 cm in length from start of armhole shaping, cast off at the right side edge at the beginning of every right side row:
a) 4 sts 2 times, 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 2 times.
b) 4 sts 2 times, 2 sts 2 times, 1 st 2 times.
c) 4 sts 2 times, 2 sts 2 times, 1 st 2 times.
d) 4 sts 2 times, 2 sts 2 times, 1 st 3 times.

Shoulder:
When right front measures a) 19 cm, b) 20 cm, c) 21 cm, d) 22 cm in length from start of armhole shaping, cast off at the left side edge at the beginning of every wrong side row:
a) 6 sts 1 time, 4 sts 1 time, 3 sts 1 time.
b) 6 sts 1 time, 4 sts 2 times.
c) 7 sts 1 time, 4 sts 2 times.
d) 8 sts 1 time, 5 sts 1 time, 4 sts 1 time.

Left Front:
Work as right front but reverse the shaping.

Sleeves:
Using size 6,5 needles cast on a) 32, b) 34, c) 38, d) 40 sts. Work 6 rows in tubular ribbing then change to size 5,5 needles and continue working in stockinette st.
When sleeve measures 8 cm, increase at each edge (= 1 st in from the edge): 1 st 8 times on every 8th row.
Total a) 48, b) 50, c) 53, d) 56 st.
When sleeve measures 45 cm, shape the sleeve head by casting off at each edge at the beginning of every row:
a) 2 sts 2 times, 1 st 8 times, 2 sts 3 times.
b) 2 sts 2 times, 1 st 9 times, 2 sts 3 times.
c) 2 sts 2 times, 1 st 10 times, 2 sts 3 times.
d) 2 sts 2 times, 1 st 11 times, 2 sts 3 times.
When sleeve measures a) 13 cm, b) 14 cm, c) 15 cm, d) 16 cm in length from start of sleeve head shaping, cast off the remaining a) 12, b) 12, c) 14, d) 14 sts. Make another sleeve the same way.

Finishing (assembly):
Baste pieces together with right sides facing and carefully block. All the seams are sewn using side seams. Sew shoulders.

Collar:
Using size 5,5 needles pick up all the sts around the neckline increasing or decreasing when necessary on the first row in order to obtain a total of a) 66, b) 74, c) 80, d) 83 sts Work 6 rows in 1 x 1 ribbing then cast off all sts.

Right Front Band:
Using size 5,5 needles pick up a) 113, b) 115, c) 117, d) 119 sts along the height of the right side edge as far as the collar. Work in 1 x 1 ribbing.

Buttonholes:
Work 6 buttonholes on the 3rd row in the following manner:
a) 3 sts, 1 buttonhole, *19 sts, 1 buttonhole*, repeat from * to * 4 more times finishing with 3 sts.
b) 4 sts, 1 buttonhole, *19 sts, 1 buttonhole*, repeat from * to * 4 more times finishing with 4 sts.
c) 5 sts, 1 buttonhole, *19 sts, 1 buttonhole*, repeat from * to * 4 more times finishing with 5 sts.
d) 6 sts, 1 buttonhole, *19 sts, 1 buttonhole*, repeat from * to * 4 more times finishing with 6 sts.

Work 3 more rows and cast off all sts. Work the left front band in the same manner but without the buttonholes and sewing the buttons on at the same height as the buttonholes.
Sleeves: attach the sleeves = match centre of sleeve head to shoulder seams and edges to start of the armhole shaping and sew. Sew sides and underarm seams.
