This fabulous zigzag bag is knitted using a very simple zigzag pattern made of slip stitches. The bag itself is made of the mixed yarn Yarn and Colors Fabulous and has a firm and dense structure. This yarn is available in 50 different colours, so there's plenty of opportunity to style it to your own taste! Finish it with some cute pompons and tassels and ready is your catchy summer accessory!

- Stockinette
- Slip stitch:
- Slip stitch knitwise: bring your yarn to the back of your work, insert needle purlwise with your yarn and the back of your work, slip stitch to the right needle without knitting it.
- Slip stitch purlwise: bring your yarn to the front of your work, insert needle purlwise, slip stitch to the right needle without knitting it.
Fabulous Zigzag Bag - Free Knitting Pattern
Cast on 54 sts. with needles no. 6 and purl one row. Continue according to the pattern below.
Row 1: *Slip 3 sts. purlwise, knit 3 sts.* Repeat from *to*
Row 2: Purl 2 sts., *slip 3 sts. knitwise, purl 3 sts.* Repeat from *to* until the last st., purl 1 st.
Row 3: Knit 2 sts., *slip 3 sts. purlwise, knit 3 sts.* Repeat from *to* untl the last st., knit 1 st.
Row 4: *slip 3 sts. knitwise, purl 3 sts.*
Row 5: Slip 1 st. purlwise, *knit 3 sts., slip 3 sts. purlwise* Repeat from *to* until the last 2 sts. Slip 2 sts. purlwise,
Row 6: Slip 1 st. knitwise, *purl 3 sts., slip 3 st. knitwise* Repeat from *to* until the last 2 sts. Slip 2 sts. knitwise.
Rows 7 - 10: Repeat rows 1 - 4
Row 11: Repeat row 1
Row 12: Repeat row 6
Row 13: Repeat row 5
Row 14: Repeat row 4
Row 15: Repeat row 3
Row 16: Repeat row 2
Rows 17 - 19: Repeat rows 11 - 13
Row 20: Repeat row 4.
Repeat rows 1 - 20 5 times in total such that you’ll get a total of 100 rows.
Handle
Rows 101 - 114: Repeat row 1 - 14.
Row 115: Knit the first 18 sts. according to row 3, cast off the next 18 sts., and knit the next 18 sts. pattern wise.
Row 116: Knit the first 18 sts. according to row 2, cast on 18 new sts., knit the next 18 sts. pattern wise.
Rows 117 - 120: Repeat rows 17 - 20
Knit 1 row and cast of all sts. in the next purl row.
Repeat this whole pattern for the back.
Stockinette Band
Cast on 9 sts. with needles no. 6. Knit stockinette for 175 rows. Depending on whether you knit loosely or tighly it could be possible that your band might be too small or large. Therefore leave a longer end yarn on your work such that you have the possibility to compensate in its length while joining both parts.
To assemble both parts i have used a thinner cotton yarn, preferably in the same colour. Join the band with one of the patches using a matrass stitch. Then join the other side of the band to the other patch.
Finishing
With Yarn & Colors Fabulous work 2 rounds of sc. at the top edge of the bag to firm the handles. Work 1 round of sc. at the inside of the handles.
Make 3 pompons with the leftovers of yarn and cut them to a desired size. Attach the pompons below the handle. Make different coloured tassels and attach them below the pompons for an extra cheerful look!
