It’s so fluffy! They’re super cuddly and look incredibly cute....Alpacas are totally hot, hip, and happening. We’re not only delighted by the sight of an alpaca, but also by alpaca wool! (Alpaca) wool is made from the sheared fleece! You can use this popular wool to knit soft, warm, and lightweight sweaters, cardigans, and many accessories that feel great against the skin. Discover how Alpacas are sheared, all the benefits of this natural wool, and the most beautiful alpaca wool yarns!
In the world of handicrafts, the Alpaca is known for its unique wool, which offers many benefits. The wool from this South American camelid is lighter, warmer, and softer than sheep’s wool and feels comfortable against the skin. We’d love to walk you through all the unique properties of this natural material:
? is warmer and stronger than wool from other animals. For example, alpaca wool is three times stronger than sheep’s wool and wears out more slowly than merino wool ?
? feels very soft and, compared to other types of wool (e.g., sheep's wool), does not irritate the skin ?
? It is hypoallergenic and does not contain lanolin, which means that people who are “allergic” to wool can tolerate alpaca wool just fine ?
? water-repellent ?
?Doesn't shrink after washing?
? is wonderfully warm and has insulating properties ?
? temperature-regulating; warm in the winter and cooling in the summer ?
? beautiful silk sheen ?
? incredibly voluminous and light ?
Alpaca wool is, as you might expect, wool from alpacas. This wool is made from the fleece of alpacas. The shearing process is carried out with respect for the animals. In 2017, we visited the River Forelands Alpaca Farm and asked the owner exactly how the process works. Watch the video and find out how alpacas are sheared.
