You can never have too many cardigans, especially with the unpredictable weather we have in the Netherlands. This beautiful long cardigan is made from Lang Yarns Amira yarn. This voluminous yarn with a net-like texture is mostly made from Cotton, making it perfect for year-round wear. Choose one of the lovely soft colors and get started with this fun Knitting Pattern. The cardigan pairs perfectly with a summery dress or a pair of cool jeans and a basic shirt.

What do you need?
- 8 / 9 / 10 / 11 balls of Lang Yarns Amira
- Knitting Needles sizes 8 and 9
Stitches used:
Pattern I Pearl Stitch: size 8 Knitting Needles - right side: 1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch. Wrong side: 1 purl stitch, 1 knit stitch, i.e., reversed from the right side.
Pattern II Cross Ribbing: size 9 Knitting Needles—with 3 rows: 1st row: purl; 2nd through 3rd rows: purl; 4th through 6th rows: knit. Repeat rows 1 through 6.
Knitting a gauge swatch:
10 x 10 cm = size 9 Knitting Needles, 12 stitches and 21 rows.
Tips:
Knit the ribbing in the corresponding pattern, and when assembling the piece, make the seams only half the depth of the ribbing.
Notable decreases: Right side = 1 slip stitch; after each pattern repeat, knit or purl 10 stitches, then knit or purl 2 stitches together. Left side = after each pattern repeat, 1 slip stitch (slip 1 stitch, knit 1, and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch), or knit 2 together, knit or purl 10 stitches, 1 chain stitch.
How to Knit the Amira Cardigan - Free Knitting Pattern
Back panel
Using size 8 Knitting Needles, cast on 54 / 58 / 64 / 68 sts. Work in Pattern I. When the piece measures approx. 16 cm from the cast-on edge (on an odd row), continue in Pattern II, starting with 1 row on the WS. Armhole: At 56 / 55 / 54 / 52 cm from the cast-on (measure while hanging), decrease 1x2 sts on both sides and decrease 4x / 4x / 5x / 5x1 st = 42 / 46 / 50 / 54 sts.
Shoulders: at 20 / 21 / 22 / 24 cm armhole height on both sides, every 2nd row: 3x4 sts / 1x4 sts + 2x5 sts / 3x5 sts / 2x5 sts + 1x6 sts, bind off.
Neck: At the same time as starting the shoulders, bind off the middle 16 / 16 / 18 / 20 sts, and on both sides of this, after 2 rows, bind off 1x1 st.
Left Front Building
Using size 8 Knitting Needles, cast on 34 / 36 / 38 / 42 sts. Work in Pattern I. When the piece measures about 16 cm from the cast-on edge (an odd number of rows), continue working in Pattern II, starting with 1 row on the wrong side.
Neck: 50 cm from the cast-on edge on the left side, decrease 1 st every 10th row / 10th row / 10th row / 8th row 6 times / 6 times / 6 times / 7 times. Shape the armhole on the right side at the same height and in the same way as the back piece.
Shoulder: At 20 / 21 / 22 / 24 armhole height, on both sides, decrease 2x3 sts + 1x4 sts / 3x4 sts / 2x4 sts + 1x5 sts / 1x4 sts + 2x5 sts every 2nd row. With the remaining 12 / 12 / 12 / 14 sts, continue working in the corresponding pattern for another 9 / 9.5 / 10 / 10.5 cm. Then leave the sts on hold.
Front Right Panel
As a mirror image of the left front section, br.
Sleeves
Using size 8 Knitting Needles, cast on 26 / 28 / 30 / 32 sts. Knit in Pattern I. When the piece measures approx. 12 cm from the cast-on (odd number of rows), continue in Pattern II, starting with 1 row on the wrong side. For the sleeve shaping, on both sides, alternately increase 7x1 st every 8th and 10th row = 40 / 42 / 44 / 46 sts.
Sleeve cap: 46 cm from the cast-on, on both sides of the work, decrease 1x2 sts every 2nd row; decrease 4x / 4x / 5x / 5x1 st; decrease 3x1 st every 4th row; then decrease 3x1 st every 2nd row again and bind off 2x2 sts. When the sleeve cap measures 15 / 15 / 16 / 16 cm, loosely bind off the remaining stitches.
Finishing
Close the seams. Sew the collar’s standing stitches together and sew the collar into the neckline. Set in the sleeves.
