Knitting the Andalusian Stitch - Stitch of the Month

This easy textured stitch is created by alternating knit and purl stitches, resulting in a subtle checkered pattern. It’s perfect for beginners. What do you need?

The Andalusian stitch can be knitted with all kinds of yarns, but it looks best with a slightly tighter-twisted yarn. For our gauge swatch, we’ve chosen Yarn and Colors Amazing, a supple 100% Acrylic yarn available in many beautiful colors.

How to Knit the Andalusian Stitch – Free Pattern & Video Tutorial

Cast on a multiple of 2 stitches on 4mm Knitting Needles.

Needle 1 (right side): Knit all stitches
Needle 2 (wrong side): Knit all stitches
Needle 3 (right side): *1R, 1AV* Repeat *-* until the end of the row
Needle 4 (wrong side): Knit all stitches

Repeat rows 1 through 4 until you have reached the desired length.
