Knit a Baby Bathrobe

If your little one wasn't already cuddly, he or she sure is now! This Knitting Pattern by Phil Douce is suitable for babies aged 3 to 24 months, so it's perfect for both little ones and bigger babies. It makes a great baby shower gift or a personalized present for a first birthday!

What do you need?



Materials:

- 4 balls A) 3/6 months - B) 5 balls 12 months - C) 6 balls 18/24 months Phildar Phil Douce
- Knitting Needles, size 5 and 4.5 cm
- Stitch Markers
- Wool Needle

Gauge swatch:
10 x 10 cm in stockinette stitch = 14 stitches and 23 rows

Stitches used:
Simple decrease on 1 stitch at the edges:
knit: 1 knit stitch, knit 2 stitches together
Left: Knit all stitches except the last 3, a simple slip stitch (slip 1 stitch to the right, knit the next stitch, and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch), 1 knit stitch.

How to Knit a Baby Bathrobe - Free Knitting Pattern

Back cover:
Cast on A) 40, B) 44, or C) 48 stitches using size 5 Knitting Needles and knit in stockinette stitch.

At A) 19 cm (44 stitches) B) 24 cm (56 stitches) C) 30.5 cm (70 stitches) total height, for the armholes, bind off 1 x 2 stitches and 2 x 1 stitch on both sides every 2nd row.
There are: A) 32 B) 36 C) 40 stitches remaining.

At A) 31.5 cm (72 stitches) B) 38 cm (88 stitches) C) 46 cm (106 stitches) total height, for the shoulders, decrease on both sides every 2nd row:
A) 1x5 stitches and 1x4 stitches
B) 2x5 stitches
C)
2x5 stitches

At the same time, bind off the middle A) 14, B) 16, or C) 20 stitches for the neckline.

Front right panel:
Cast on A) 32, B) 34, or C) 36 stitches using size 5 Knitting Needles and stockinette stitch.

At A) 11.5 cm (26 rows) B) 17 cm (40 stitches) C) 25 cm (58 stitches) total height; for the slanted side, decrease 1 x 1 stitch 1 stitch from the right edge, then 6 rows higher: decrease 1 x 1 stitch; every 4th row: decrease 7 x 1 stitch; and every 2nd row: decrease 2 x 1 stitch.

Meanwhile, at A) 19 cm (44 stitches), B) 24 cm (56 stitches), C) 30.5 cm (70 stitches) total height, for the armhole, decrease 1 x 2 stitches and 2 x 1 stitch on every 2nd row.

At A) 28.5 cm (64 stitches) B) 34 cm (78 stitches) C) 42 cm (96 stitches) total height, bind off on the right side for the neck:
A) 1 x 3 stitches, then every 2nd row: 2 x 2 stitches and 1 x 1 stitch
B) 1 x 3 stitches, then on every 2nd row: 2 x 2 stitches and 2 x 1 stitch
C) 1 x 4 stitches, then on every 2nd row: 1 x 3 stitches, 1 x 2 stitches, and 2 x 1 stitch

At A) 31.5 cm (72 stitches) B) 38 cm (88 stitches) C) 46 cm (106 stitches) total height, for the shoulder, bind off on the left side every 2nd row:
A) 1 set of 5 stitches and 1 set of 4 stitches
B) 2 sets of 5 stitches
C)
2 sets of 5 stitches

Knit the left front piece in mirror image.

Sleeves:
Cast on A) 30, B) 32, or C) 34 stitches using size 5 Knitting Needles and knit in stockinette stitch.
On both sides, 1 stitch from the edges:
A) Every 12th row: 3 x 1 increase
B) Every 12th row: increase 3 times by 1, and 10 rows later: increase
1 time by 1 C) 14 rows later: increase 1 time by 1, and every 12th row: increase 3 times by 1

You will have: A) 36 B) 40 C) 42 stitches.

At A) 20 cm (46 stitches) B) 24 cm (56 stitches) C) 26.5 cm (62 stitches) total height, for the sleeve cap, decrease on both sides every 2nd row:
A) 1 set of 4 stitches, 1 set of 2 stitches, 1 stitch, 1 set of 2 stitches, and 1 set of 4 stitches
B) 1 set of 4 stitches, 1 set of 3 stitches, 2 sets of 2 stitches, and 1 set of 4 stitches
C) 1 set of 4 stitches, 1 set of 3 stitches, 1 set of 2 stitches, 1 x 3 stitches, and 1 x 4 stitches

At A) 24.5 cm (56 stitches) B) 28.5 cm (66 stitches) C) 31 cm (72 stitches) total height, bind off the remaining 10 stitches. Knit a second sleeve the same way.

Hood:
Cast on A) 59, B) 63, or C) 63 stitches using size 5 Knitting Needles and knit in stockinette stitch.

At A) 13 cm (30 stitches) B) 15 cm (34 stitches) C) 16.5 cm (38 rows) total height, bind off the center stitch, continue knitting the stitches in purl and bind off on every 2nd row: Purl (outer edge) 4 times 2 stitches, 1 time 3 stitches, and 1 time 4 stitches.
On the right (inside): 3 x 1 stitch and 2 x 2 stitches.

At A) 18 cm (42 stitches) B) 20 cm (46 stitches) C) 21.5 cm (50 stitches) total height, bind off the remaining A) 7 B) 9 C) 9 stitches.

Pick up the held-off stitches on the right side again and finish in a mirror image.

Belt:
Cast on 14 stitches using size 4.5 Knitting Needles and knit A) 90, B) 96, or C) 102 rows in stockinette stitch. Then bind off all stitches.

Finish:
Pin the pieces of the peignor to the pattern size and steam them. The seams must be closed. The reverse stockinette stitch becomes the right side of the work.

Sew the shoulder and side seams. Sew the sleeve seams. Sew the last 5 cm of the seam on the other side (for the lapel). Sew the sleeves into the armholes.

Sew the hood seam from point A to points B, and sew the hood into the neck opening: points B and C on the hood should line up with those on the bodice.

Fold the belt in half lengthwise and sew it together with Sewing Thread.
