Knitting a Cotton Baby Blanket - Every little one is the sunshine of the home thanks to this cotton baby blanket. Petra created the free Knitting Pattern for this blanket in bright yellow, but the yarn is available in no fewer than 38 different colors. The base of the blanket is made from DMC Natura XL, a strong, 100% Cotton yarn that’s very soft and warm. This means even the tiniest boys and girls can play to their heart’s content on the baby blanket—with a crocheted cuddly toy, for example. Or there’s a good chance they’ll drift off to dreamland in no time under this cozy, warm little blanket. Whether you’re making the blanket for your own child or giving it as a baby shower gift, it’s a real showstopper in any nursery, crib, or stroller.

- 5 balls of DMC Natura XL, color 09
- 8 mm Knitting Needles
Dimensions: 75 cm wide x 65 cm high
Stitches used:
Straight stitch
Reverse stitch
Garter Stitch (knit all stitches in stockinette stitch)
Knitting a Baby Blanket with Cotton - Free Knitting Pattern
Cast on 84 stitches and knit 4 rows in garter stitch for the cuff.
5th row: Knit 4 stitches (= side edge), *knit 3 stitches, purl 1 stitch**; repeat from * to ** until 4 stitches remain, then knit these 4 stitches.
6th row: Knit 4 stitches (= side edge), knit 2 stitches, purl 1 stitch, *knit 3 stitches, purl 1 stitch**; repeat from * to ** until 5 stitches remain, then knit the remaining 5 stitches.
Repeat these rows until the piece measures 63 cm, then knit 4 rows in garter stitch for the cuff. Bind off all stitches.
