Join the 2018 Good Cheer Knitting Campaign

Have you ever seen them in stores: Innocent smoothies with a cheerful little hat on top? You probably have. This winter, the juice brand’s “Goedgemutste” Knitting Campaign is entering its thirteenth year. Want to knit or crochet little hats for a good cause? Read on to find out more.

The “Goedgemutste” Knitting Campaign is a fun initiative by Innocent to support the National Foundation for the Elderly. And Yarnplaza is joining in again! Will you knit or crochet for this good cause too? Insert the needle, yarn over, pull through, and send it in! It’s that simple to contribute to the campaign. All you have to do is knit—or crochet, whichever you prefer—a little hat. Once you’ve finished that one, feel free to make another. Or ten. The hats don’t have to be perfect. As long as you’ve done your best, we (and the Ouderenfonds) will be happy with them.

How does the "Goedgemutse" Knitting Campaign work?

Cheerful Knitting Campaign

On the Goedgemutste Knitting Campaign website, you’ll find lots of fun patterns for beginners, intermediate knitters, and experts. It’s best to use a fine yarn suitable for size 3/4 needles. Consider, for example, Stylecraft Special DK, Yarn and Colors Charming, or Yarn and Colors Joy.

Are you convinced?

Are you as excited as we are about the hat campaign? You can make as many hats as you want—it’s so much fun! Just be sure to turn them in by December 7, 2018. And in the meantime, you can share your excitement in the campaign’s Facebook group. We’ve also come up with 3 fun patterns for hats. Check out the 3 Yarnplaza crochet and knitting patterns below.

Cheerful Knitting Campaign

Crochet Pattern 1

Tools & Supplies:
- Yarn and Colors Must-have Mini: Mustard (15), Cotton Candy (37), and Peony Leaf (86)
- Crochet Hook size 3

Using Cotton Candy, crochet 30 chain stitches and join the first and last chain stitches together (make sure there’s no twist). Pick up the Mustard color and work with it (as in the Mochilla pattern).
Row 1: 1 chain stitch to start; using Cotton Candy, work 1 single crochet in the back loops of each stitch. At the last stitch, switch from Cotton Candy to Mustard on the last yarn over.
Row 2: Using Mustard, work 1 single crochet in the back loop of each stitch. For the last stitch, switch from Mustard to Cotton Candy on the last yarn over.
Repeat rows 1 and 2 five more times.

Finishing: Fasten off Mustard and, using Cotton Candy, crochet 1 single crochet, 1 chain stitch, and skip 1 stitch on the top row. Close the row with a slip stitch in the first stitch. Pull the yarn through the loops that form and pull the yarn tight.

Make a pompom using Peony Leaf: to do this, wrap the yarn around two fingers several times and secure the loop with a piece of yarn. Trim the pompom to size and attach it to the top of the hat. Now weave in the loose ends at the beginning of the first round.

Crochet Pattern 2

Tools & Supplies:
- Cotton scraps suitable for Crochet Hooks sizes 2–3.5, such as Phildar Phil Coton 3, Catania, or Yarn and Colors Must-have.
- Crochet Hook size 3
- A fork for making pom-poms, or use the handy pom-pom maker

Stitches used:
l = chain stitch
v = single crochet
hv = slip stitch
hst = half double crochet
st = double crochet
dst = double crochet

The hat is crocheted in the round. Do not fasten off at the end of each round; just keep crocheting. Use Stitch Markers, for example, to mark the first stitch of your round.
You start at the bottom of the hat.
Crochet a chain of 31 stitches. Join with a slip stitch in the first chain to form a loop. Make sure there is no twist in your chain.
Row 1: You will now crochet along the chain. Crochet * 1 single crochet in the first chain, 1 slip stitch in the second chain *. Repeat *to*, until the end of the row. You will have a total of 30 stitches.
Row 2: Crochet 1 single crochet in each stitch of the previous row. Crochet a relief half-double crochet around each stitch of the previous row. To do this, do not insert your Crochet Hook into the top of the previous double crochet, but instead insert it from right to left under the stitch at the front (30).
Row 3: Repeat Row 2. Now crochet a relief half-double crochet around each half-double crochet from the previous row (30).
Row 4: Change colors. Now crochet 1 in each stitch (30).
Rows 5–15: You will now crochet deep single crochets. To do this, do not insert your Crochet Hook into the top of the stitch, but through the V-shape of the single crochet on the front side. Crochet 30 single crochets in each row (30).
Row 16: Now crochet single crochet again. Crochet every 4th and 5th single crochet together (24).
Row 17: Crochet every 3rd and 4th stitch together (18). Fasten off. Thread the end of the yarn through your stitches from the top, pulling them together. Weave in all loose ends neatly.

Now, using the same color as your starting rows, make a small pompom around your fork and single crochet it to the top of your hat.

Even if you’re not quite a pro at knitting or crocheting yet—despite the clear patterns—but still want to contribute to this charity, buy an Innocent smoothie with a knitted or crocheted hat starting in February 2019. Innocent doesn’t just sell products that taste great—they’re also good for you. And for others, too—because this way, you’re still doing your part for the “Goedgemutste” Knitting Campaign!
