Knit an Olympic Hat

We’re doing great at the Olympics. Gold, Silver, bronze—we’ve got them all in abundance. According to the stats, the Dutch team is actually having its best Winter Games ever! Never before has a country won so many medals in a single sport at one Winter Games: speed skating. And have you noticed all those cute hats popping up everywhere? Time to make one yourself. We’re going to knit an Olympic hat!

What do you need?

Material;
Knitting Needles, size 4.5
2 balls of black Katia Merino Baby 2
2 balls of orange Katia Merino Baby 49

Patterns

The hat is knitted with double yarn.

1. Cast on 92 stitches using orange yarn.
2. Knit 10 rows in 1/1 ribbing.
3. Using black yarn, knit 11 rows in stockinette stitch. Knit the first and last stitches as edge stitches.
4. On the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, and 10th rows, loosely knit the orange yarn along with the Black yarn. (Place the orange yarn in front of the work, knit a stitch with the Black yarn, and place the orange yarn behind the work.)
5. Using orange yarn, knit 3 rows in stockinette stitch.
6. Next, knit 6 repeats of the motif side by side, following the chart.

v = tricot stitch r = knit

7. Next, knit 6 rows: 1 row orange, 1 row Black, 1 row orange, 1 row Black, 1 row orange, 1 row Black.
8. Knit with orange using the garter stitch.
9. On the 2nd and 4th rounds, knit all stitches together (except the edge stitches).
10. Pull the thread through all the stitches and pull it tight.
11. Sew the side seams.
12. Make a pom-pom about 10 cm in diameter and single crochet it to the hat.

The pattern was created by: Monique Spierings and Corrie Blom.

We think it would be really fun to post all the Olympic hats in a Facebook album. Will you join us? Send a fun photo of your creation to info@wolplein.nl!
