Shawl with Shades of Merino Cotton

This beautiful women’s shawl proves that fall doesn’t have to feel like fall at all. This season, we’re seeing lots of pastels, and they’re featured in this fun knitting and Crochet Pattern. Yes, you read that right. This week, we’ll show you two different ways to use this yarn from Lana Grossa.

Whether you knit or crochet, these scarves are both perfect for sunny fall days and make great eye-catchers when paired with a new winter coat. Plus, you’ll have a scarf ready for spring right away. For yourself or for your daughter, niece, or granddaughter. After all, they usually love the soft colors of these knitted and crocheted shawls. Prefer a different color? That’s possible, too. The scarves are made from Shades of Merino Cotton yarn, which is available in six different shades. This merino wool and cotton yarn consists of four thin strands that gradually change color. This is what makes the ball so special—and convenient: you only need one ball to make a scarf.

Knitted shawl

Tools & Supplies:
- 1 ball of Lana Grossa Shades of Merino Cotton
- Circular Knitting Needle, size 4, 80 cm

Dimensions: +/- 160 x 58.5 cm

Stitches used:
- Edge stitch: Knit the first stitch of each row. Slip the last stitch of each row as if to purl, while continuing to hold the yarn in front of the stitch.
- Pattern: Knit according to the Knitting Pattern. The numbers on the far right indicate the right-side rows. On the wrong-side rows, knit the stitches as they appear or as described in the following key. Start across the width with 3 stitches between the arrows. Starting with the 3rd row on the left edge, increase 1 stitch in every 2nd row as shown. Repeat the pattern section with the Grey background (= 12 stitches) continuously across the width. After the 95th row, there are 50 stitches on the needle. Knit rows 1–96 once, then repeat rows 73–96 (= 24 stitches) continuously, continuing the increases on the left edge as appropriate and incorporating them into the pattern.

Knitting Pattern for the shawl:

Knit across in the direction of the arrow. Cast on 3 stitches. Knit in the textured pattern with a chain edge, increasing 1 stitch as marked 85 more times every other row starting after the 95th row = 135 stitches. After 80 cm = 269 rows from the cast-on, the center is reached. Now continue the piece in mirror image and finish the end with a garter stitch pattern only. For the taper on the left edge, decrease 1 stitch 132 times every other row. To do this, knit 2 stitches together through the back loop before the edge stitch. When 3 stitches remain, knit 2 more rows in garter stitch. Then bind off these last 3 stitches.

Finish:
Stretch out the shawl, dampen it, and let it dry. Carefully tuck the threads into the back.

Crocheted shawl

Tools & Supplies:
- 1 ball of Lana Grossa Shades of Merino Cotton
- Crochet Hook size 4.5

Dimensions: semicircle with a radius of ± 70 cm

Gauge swatch: the first 9 rows of the pattern form a circle with a radius of ± 15 cm

Stitches used:
- Fan pattern: Crochet in back-and-forth rows according to the Crochet Pattern. Start with a chain of 4 chain stitches. Then join the chain into a loop by working 1 slip stitch into the 1st chain stitch. In this ring, work 13 double crochets in the 1st row, replacing the 1st double crochet with 3 chain stitches. The numbers are always listed at the beginning of the row. Turn to each subsequent row with the corresponding number of chain stitches as shown. These turning chain stitches replace the 1st stitch of the row. Always work the last stitch of the row into the last chain stitch. Rows 1 through 18 are shown in full. Starting with row 19, complete the rows in mirror image relative to the beginning, working the corresponding double crochets at the beginning and end of the row instead of the chain stitches, and vice versa. The arrows, on the right and above, indicate the first half of the piece. Complete the other half in mirror image. On the double crochet clusters, crochet the stems and fans as shown in the first half. After the 34th round, only the double crochet clusters and the fans above the center motif are shown. Starting with rows 35–42, crochet 3 stems with 1 fan each above every fan in the same manner; when doing so, work the chain groups shown on the side only once between the motifs that are to be crocheted in between—see also the photo. Connect the groups of three on the inside with chain stitches, just like the motifs already shown. Due to space constraints, these motifs were not drawn; they will naturally form as you crochet.

Crochet Pattern for the shawl:

Start in the center of the fabric. To do this, place 4 chain stitches. Crochet in a fan pattern, working the first 18 rows as shown. Starting with the 19the – 34e row 2e Fill in the other half as a mirror image. In the 35e – 42e Spread out the groups of three

Logically complete the patterns, so insert two groups of three between each of the drawn groups, and starting from the middle, the 2e half of 1, mirrorede Fill up the other half. After the 42e row = 70 cm from the cast-on (measured in radius); finish the piece.

Finish:
Stretch out the shawl, dampen it, and let it dry. Carefully tuck the threads into the back.
