Yarnplaza.com would love to see more children take up crocheting and knitting. Why? Because it’s fun, relaxing, and incredibly educational! That’s how Schoolbreien came about. For the past few weeks, every elementary school class has been able to sign up to to be eligible for the project’s free Kids knitting and Crochet Kits. And boy, did we ever!
We’ve received quite a few applications from schools that would like to get started with the knitting and crochet kits. Nearly 100 elementary schools in the Netherlands have already had the opportunity to do so. We’ve received so many wonderful responses from teachers.
Knit Is Trendy
If we are to believe the students at De Planthof Elementary School, knitting is totally trendy. “Not old-fashioned at all—it’s totally hip,” say the students in Grade 8. Some children at St. Theresia Elementary School even enjoy knitting and crocheting so much that they’d rather stay at school: “Teacher, if the destination of the field trip isn’t fun enough, we’ll just stay at school and knit and crochet!”
Learning Together
When it comes to crocheting and knitting, the teachers could use some help, so plenty of moms and grandmothers are being called upon to come and assist. The kids also help each other. Here’s what a teacher from 't Zonnewiel in Almere writes: “Some of the children are already very good at knitting and have come a long way; they’re a huge help to me because they also help the other children! Learning together—it’s so much fun!”
