Should you head out with or without a scarf? One morning we’re still scraping ice off our car, and the next, the birds are singing at the top of their lungs to herald the arrival of spring! That’s why Petra created a knitted striped scarf that you can wear all year round. It’s made from a yarn that’s wonderfully warm in the winter and keeps you cool in the summer. So it’s perfect for this time of year! Read on for the Free Knitting Pattern...
The extra-long striped scarf is made with Shades of Merino Cotton. This Merino Wool and Cotton yarn consists of four thin strands that gradually change color. The subtle color palette Petra used is easy to match, but this Lana Grossa yarn is available in eleven beautiful shades. We’ve already used it to make this shawl. In this free pattern, this unique ball is alternated with Lana Grossa Cool Wool and a strand of glitter yarn. This makes the color gradient stand out even more!

Striped Scarf: Shades of Merino Cotton - Free Knitting Pattern
Cast on 75 stitches using Lana Grossa Shades of Merino Cotton and a size 4.5 needle. Start from the inside of the ball using the Black color. On the return row, knit the stitches.
Knit the Cool Wool yarn in color Ecru (432) and the DROPS Glitter yarn together as a single strand.
Needles 1 & 2: Using Cool Wool in the color Ecru/Glitter, knit 2 rows in stockinette stitch.
Needles 3 & 4: Knit 1 row with Shades of Merino Cotton, then purl the next row.
Repeat these 4 rows 94 times with these color changes. Then switch from the Black color to Cool Wool Ecru and continue to knit together with DROPS Glitter, repeating the 4 rows 94 times as described above.
Then knit one more time with the 2 needles of Cool Wool/Glitter and the 2 needles of Shades of Merino Cotton, and bind off the stitches on the purl row.
