What is Sock Yarn?
The best yarn for knitting or crocheting socks is Sock Yarn! The difference between “regular” wool and Sock Yarn is that polyamide (also known as nylon) is added to the wool. Sock yarns usually consist of the classic composition of 75–80% wool and 20–25% nylon. The addition of these synthetic fibers makes the yarn durable, so your knitted socks will last for years (which is great after you’ve put so much effort and love into them)! In addition, polyamide ensures that the yarn is strong and that the socks retain their shape after washing. Most sock yarns have also been superwash-treated. This ensures that you can wash your sock-yarn creations without them shrinking or felting.
In addition to sock yarns with traditional compositions, you’re also seeing more and more sock yarns made from unique and innovative materials such as soy, nettle, and Bamboo. And there are skeins with a high cotton content so you can show off your hand-knitted socks even in the summer.
