Stitch of the Month: Knit a Coffee Bean

Of course, we all know coffee as that “brown bean drink” we love to have in the morning, but the coffee bean is also a well-known term in the knitting world! Did you know there’s a specific stitch called the “coffee bean”? In this blog, learn how to knit the coffee bean stitch and all the things you can make with it: Read on to find out more!

What kinds of things can you make using the coffee bean stitch?

The coffee bean is a stretchy and airy little pattern, which makes it perfect for hats, socks, and the cuff of a new sweater, for example! The pattern looks a bit like a row of coffee beans lined up next to each other—that’s because it’s a bean-shaped motif with a little dot in the middle, so it’s definitely a bean!

How do you make a coffee bean?

Step 1: Choose a good yarn to knit your coffee beans; we recommend a nice acrylic yarn, such as Yarn and Colors Amazing. The sample was knitted with this yarn in the color Aventurine.

Instructions and Tools & Supplies:

You'll need:
- Yarn and Colors Amazing in the color Aventurine
- 4 mm Knitting Needle

Cast on a number of stitches that is divisible by 5, plus 4 extra stitches

For the video: cast on 15 + 4 = 19 stitches

First, knit 3 rows to create a garter stitch edge
