Knit Mittens

Mittens are back in style! They’re your best friend on cold days. They’re easy to knit and a lot of fun. Want to knit this beautiful pair of mittens and head into winter in style? Then check out the pattern now!

The advantage of mittens is that your fingers and your hand keep each other warm. The warmth required for each finger decreases, and mittens use more insulating material than gloves. So mittens are warmer than gloves. All the more reason to knit this beautiful pair, right?!

Tools & Supplies:
-
3 balls of Lei Bicolor
- 1 ball of Lei, color 7
- size 8 double-pointed knitting needles

"Mittens" Pattern knit'

ribbing pattern; knit 2, purl 2, repeat across row
Stripe sequence: * 3 sts Lei, 3 sts Lei bicolor; repeat from *.
Rib Stitch: on the wrong side, knit 1, purl 1.
On the left needle: Cast on 20 sts using the Lei method. Distribute the sts evenly over 4 rows = 5 sts per row, and join to work in the round. Mark the beginning of the row with a thread. For the cuff, knit 21 sts in the cuff pattern following the stripe pattern sequence. Then knit in Lei Bicolor garter stitch. The sts on the 1st and 4th rows are for the inside of the mitten; the sts on the 2nd and 3rd rows are for the outside. On the 5th row from the end of the cuff, begin the thumb gusset. To do this, on the 1st row, before and after the 4th stitch, increase 1 twisted knit stitch using the cross thread, and knit the 5th stitch; then, 2 times in every 2nd row, increase 1 twisted knit stitch using the cross thread before the 1st and after the last increased stitch = 7 stitches on the thumb gusset. Knit the increased stitch. Then place these 7 stitches for the thumb gusset on a cable needle and cast on 1 additional stitch for the thumb gusset. Now continue knitting the 20 sts in ribbing according to the pattern. After 30 rows from the end of the cuff, begin the toe, decreasing in the first row as follows: knit the 2nd and 4th needles together through the back loop. This decreases 4 sts per row. Repeat these decreases every 2nd row 2 more times. Pull the remaining 8 sts together with the yarn. Weave in the ends neatly.

For the thumb, now pick up the 7 sts from the auxiliary needle and, at the gusset, pick up 2 sts using Lei bicolor = 9 sts. Distribute the sts over 3 rows and knit in garter stitch. After 10 rows, pull the 9 sts together with the yarn. Weave in the ends.

Right mitten: Knit in mirror image of the left mitten, working the increases for the thumb gusset before and after the 2nd stitch of the 4th row.
