Knitting Decorative Cushions - You can make your home cozier with a beautiful cushion—or better yet, several cushions. Want to knit a soft yet stylish cushion? Then you’ll love this free Knitting Pattern. We’re going to use the beautiful honeycomb brioche stitch.
After all, the best home decor is the kind you make yourself, as Elianne’s pattern proves. She made this stylish cushion cover using Katia Alaska yarn in a beautiful stitch: the honeycomb brioche stitch. The stitch often looks very difficult, but it’s actually very easy! All you need to know is how to knit in stockinette stitch to make this green cushion. The thick winter yarn does the rest. The yarn is made of 100% Acrylic, making it ideal for people who are allergic to wool.
Elianne chose army green for her beautiful decorative pillow—one of the trendiest colors right now. Doesn't it match your decor? No problem—the Katia Alaska is available in no fewer than 46 different colors.

Knitting a Decorative Pillow - Free Knitting Pattern
Tools & Supplies:
- 4 balls of Katia Alaska, color 17
- Size 7 Knitting Needles
- Inner cushion 50 x 50 cm
Gauge swatch: 10 x 10 cm in honeycomb brioche stitch = 10 stitches and 20 rows
Stitches used:
Honeycomb Brioche Stitch = The honeycomb brioche stitch is always knitted over an even number of stitches and consists of 4 rows that are repeated continuously.
- Needle 1: *Knit 1 stitch, knit 1 brioche stitch (knit 1 stitch, inserting the needle deeper into the stitch)* Repeat *-* to the end of the row. The last stitch is a brioche stitch; leave the extra loop on your needle.
- Needle 2: Knit the loop on your needle together with the first stitch. *Knit 1 stitch, then slip the loop from the previous row’s brioche stitch back onto the right needle and knit it together with the next stitch (= brioche stitch)* Repeat from *-* to the end of the row.
- Row 3: *Knit 1 brioche stitch, knit 1* Repeat *-* to the end of the row.
- Row 4: *Knit 1 stitch, then slip the loop from the brioche stitch of the previous row back onto the right needle and knit it together (= patent) with the next stitch* Repeat from *-* to the end of the row.
Tip: Have you lost your place? On the wrong side of the work (where you see the ridges), you always pick up the loops. On the right side of the work, you always knit the brioche stitch. If you’re on the right side of the work and aren’t sure whether to knit the brioche stitch or not, look at the number of loops in the next stitch on the needle. Where there is a single loop, knit the brioche stitch; where the stitch has a double loop, knit a regular stockinette stitch. Note: On the wrong side of the work, when you encounter a double loop around the stitch, pick up the loop as described above.
Knit a decorative pillow: How do you do it?
Cast on 50 stitches and knit 1 row. Now knit 100 rows in honeycomb brioche stitch as described above. On the 101st row (on the right side of the work), bind off all stitches. Start with a knit stitch, 1 brioche stitch, and repeat this until the end of the row, but simply knit the last stitch.
Knit a second piece just like the first one.
Sew the sides and bottoms of the two pieces together. Now insert the inner cushion into the cover and sew the last seam at the top closed.
