Dimensions: Ø 40 cm

Tools & Supplies:

Used macramé knots

  • Cast-on loop
  • Cordon Knot
  • Wei Task Button
  • Berry button: Make 2 weita buttons one below the other. Bring your insert threads up and thread the ends of the insert threads through the spaces between the threads at the top of the button (from front to back). Lay the insert threads down again and pull them tight. Now use the same working threads to tie a bag button to secure the insert threads around the button.

Tip: Where your guide threads cross, always work toward the center. So, on the left side, use your left thread as the guide thread for your cordon knot, and on the right side, use your right thread as the guide thread for your cordon knot.

Step-by-Step Guide to Making a Stylish Macramé Wall Hanging

Step 1: Cut 7 strands, each 1 meter long. Fold the strands in half and attach them to the ring using a loop. Make sure the ring is facing the right way.

Step 2: Start with the 3rd thread from the left as the insert thread and tie a double cordon knot that runs diagonally down to the right to join this insert thread with the 4th thread from the left. Do the same with the 6th thread from the left: use it as the insert thread and tie a double cordon knot that runs down to the left to join it with the 5th thread from the left. The insert threads cross each other; tie them together with a double cordon button, using the left-hand thread as the insert thread.

Step 3: Repeat these steps for the 3rd strand from the right and the 6th strand from the right. Join them together with a double cordon knot, this time using the right-hand strand as the weft.

Step 4: Now use the first strand as the working strand and make another series of double cord buttons along your first buttons. Do the same for the seventh strand. Where the first and seventh strands cross, join them with a double cord button, using your left strand as the working strand.

Step 5: Repeat this for the figure on the right using the 8th and 14th threads. Where the 8th and 14th threads cross, join them with a double cordon knot, using the thread on your right as the weft thread.

Step 6: Now use the middle 4 threads to make the berry knot, using the middle 2 threads as the weft. Slide the button as far up as possible and pull it tight. Now continue making double cordon buttons around the 1st thread and around the 14th thread until they cross each other. Finally, make a double cordon button using the left-hand strand as the insert strand.

Repeat steps 1 through 6 seven more times until you have 8 identical figures on the ring and the ring is completely full.

Connect all the shapes by making a final row of double cordon buttons on the left and right sides of each shape, using the outer threads as insert threads. Connect the insert threads with a double cordon button, using the right thread as the insert thread.

Finishing

Cut all the strands to about 6 cm and comb them out with a fine-toothed comb. If desired, trim your fringes even shorter or into shape. To hang the mandala, attach a thin Cotton cord to one of the points.
