Want an easy way to make a feather out of yarn? Try macramé! We'll show you how. With a simple knot, you can make a feather in no time. We used chunky yarns (Yarn and Colors Urban and Fresh), which makes the feather nice and big—perfect for a wall hanging. Get started with this pattern now!
Macramé Feather - Once you’ve tied the knots, your macramé feather is already done! The feather has plenty of volume right away because you’re using Urban or Fresh yarns. With Yarn and Colors Fresh, you can make a bold and Chunky wall hanging that keeps its shape beautifully (the feather on the left in the photo above). If you make the macramé feather with Yarn and Colors Urban, you’ll get a different effect (the feather on the right in the photo above). The feather will be super soft and fluffy! Both yarns are available in both muted and vibrant shades.

Macramé Feather Pattern
- Cut the base of the macramé feather. This is a string about 120 cm long. Thread this string through the wooden ring. Make sure the wooden ring is in the center of the string and that the two ends are side by side and the same length.
- Cut pieces of yarn about 35 cm long. You'll need a lot of them, so keep going until you've used up the whole ball.
1. Fold a short 35-cm piece of wire in half and place it under the long base wire. Both ends should point to the left (they can also point to the right, but in that case, make sure the wires are pointing to the left again in the step below).
2. Fold another short strand in half and place it on top of the long strand, exactly where the other short strand is already lying, but with the ends pointing to the right.
3 Thread the ends through the loops. So, thread the top ends through the loop of the bottom thread, and vice versa.
4. Tighten the button securely and make sure the ends are the same length.

- Repeat these steps. Start at the top and work your way down. Always leave a bit of string at the bottom so you can tie a knot, preventing the feathers from slipping down.
- Next, you can comb the feather to give it even more volume. Start with a small section and watch closely to see how the yarn reacts.
- If desired, trim the macramé feather into the desired shape.
- As a finishing touch, spray some hairspray on the wall hanging so the feather stays in place!
Have fun with your macramé feather!
