Step-by-Step Guide to Using a Punch Needle to Punch Out an Easter Bunny

Duration: It takes about 3 hours to use a punch needle to punch out the Easter bunny.

What do you need?

- Yarnplaza Easter Punch Needle Pattern
- Embroidery Hoop, 15 cm
- Rico thin Punch Needle - 2.2 mm
- 1 Yarn and Colors Must-have Mini 100 Black
- 1 Yarn and Colors Must-have Mini 001 White
- 1 Yarn and Colors Must-have Mini 045 Blossom
- 1 skein of Yarn and Colors Must-have 009 Limestone
- Lilian canvas fabric
- Prym Washable Iron-On Marker, Red (or pencil/fineliner)

Please note:
In this punch project, you'll work with needles of different lengths. This creates a playful mix of long loops and flatter stitches.

How do you use a punch needle to create this Easter bunny?

Step 1:
Trace the pattern onto the fabric with the marker and stretch the fabric into the embroidery hoop.

Step 2:
Thread your punch needle with Black and set it to position 3. Start with the Easter bunny’s whiskers, and then punch the insides of the eyes. When you’re done, cut your yarn.

Step 3:
Thread your punch needle with White and set the needle to position 3. First, punch the dot on the nose, then move on to the eyes. When punching, always work from the outside in: first punch the outline and work inward from there. You can flip your work over occasionally to check if it’s filled in to your liking. Once the eyes are finished, cut the thread and move on to the next step.

Step 4:
Thread your punch needle with Blossom and set it to position 3. Fill in the nose with this yarn, and then punch the insides of the ears pink. Done? Cut the yarn.

Step 5:
Thread your Punch Needle with Limestone and set it to position 6. Now it’s time to fill in your Easter bunny’s fur. Start with the ears: work from the outside in. When you’re done with the ears, move on to the head. Once your entire Easter bunny is filled in, cut your yarn.

Step 6:
This step is optional. When you're done, turn your work over and check for any long, loose loops. You can adjust these with a small (crochet) hook.

Step 7:
You've now finished using the punch needle to punch out the Easter bunny, so it's time to finish the back. You can leave it in the embroidery hoop and finish it there, or you can turn it into an Easter ornament. If you want to do the latter, first secure the back with punch glue or fabric glue before cutting out the shape.

What to do with the Easter Bunny?

You’ve now finished this cute Easter bunny, but now comes the big question: what are you going to do with it? For example, we’d use it as a decoration for your Easter brunch or hang it on your Easter branch. If you want to turn it into a double-sided ornament, make sure to mirror the pattern once. Then you can glue the two bunnies together and hang them up. Cool!
