The granite stitch, also known as the weave stitch, is very popular among Haakster’s and is therefore widely used in various crochet projects. The granite stitch is easy to crochet and creates a rugged look! We’d love to show you how to crochet this stitch using a gauge swatch and a video tutorial.
Granite Stitch - Because the granite stitch creates a flat, sturdy, and dense texture, it is often used when crocheting shawls, scarves, blankets, throws, and pot holders. The result you get with the granite stitch is the same on both the front and the back.

Variations on the Granite Stitch
With the granite stitch, you can also easily decrease stitches and increase them to form, for example, a triangle; see the Basic Merino Granite Stitch Shawl, the Yarn and Colors Toned Triangle Scarf, or the Joy Shawl as examples. You can also easily change colors with the granite stitch. Simply alternate with a different color while working the granite stitch—this creates a playful and colorful effect. For example, try making this awesome scarf in a weave stitch using Durable Double Four!
