Crochet Pattern: Basic Merino Granny Square Scarf

The classic Granny Squares are as old as the hills, but they’re still incredibly popular. With these cheerful little squares, the possibilities are endless, and you can create the most beautiful projects. In this episode, Saskia crochets a generous scarf made up of no fewer than 119 squares! It turned out so cool, didn’t it?

Knitting Pattern: Coffee & Wool Stitch Scarf

After last week’s bobble stitch, Petra is now moving on to the cornflower stitch. On a background of green-yellow (color 29), she’s knitting a beautiful but intricate cornflower in dark blue (color 15). Petra demonstrates part of the process on the show; for a more detailed explanation, you can watch the tutorial here.

Materials for the complete scarf:

  • DROPS Eskimo Uni Color:
    - 4 x color 53 light grey
    - 3 pieces: 1 in off-white and 14 in dark gray
    - 1 x color 4 orchid, 9 old pink, 10 Burgundy, 12 light blue, 15 dark blue, 22 army, 26 hot pink, 29 green-yellow, 30 pastel pink, 35 lime, 54 medium purple, 56 Christmas red
  • Crochet Hook 5,5
  • Knitting Needles, 40 cm, 8 mm

Cornflower Stitch Pattern:
Rows 1 and 2: stockinette stitch in green-yellow, color 29.
3rd row: Knit 7 sts with green-yellow, * knit the next (8th) st with dark blue, do not let it slip off the needle, bring the Blue yarn to the front and knit again, bring the yarn to the front and knit again (= 5 loops), 7 sts with green-yellow ** repeat from * to **, end with 7 sts knit.
4th row: in green-yellow, knit 7 sts, *knit the 5 loops in dark blue with a double yarn over in dark blue, knit 7 sts in green-yellow.** Repeat from * to **
5th row: using yellow-green, knit 4 sts, * slip 3 sts off the dark blue stitch, drop the double yarn over and leave it in front of the work; place the 3 slipped sts back on the left needle; place the dark blue loop in front of them on the left needle. Knit the 1st (dark blue) + 2nd (yellow-green) loops together, inserting the needle into the back loops, knit 2 stitches, slip 3 dark blue stitches, drop the double yarn over, place it on the right needle, leave the 4th dark blue stitch on hold in front of the work, knit the 2 yellow-green stitches, place the dark blue loop in front of them, and knit these 2 stitches together with the yellow-green loop through the back loops, knit 1 stitch.** Repeat from * to **, ending with 4 knit stitches.
6th row: using yellow-green, knit 7 sts, * knit 3 dark blue sts, knit 7 sts **; repeat from * to **.
7th row: 5 st re with yellow green, *2 st av off, leave the 1st dark blue loop on hold, place the 2 av off st back on the left needle, dark blue loop in front, knit the dark blue loop and the yellow green st re together by stitching them together with the needle, inserting it into the back stitches. Knit 1 stitch, slip 1 dark blue stitch purlwise, leave the 2nd dark blue loop in front of the work, knit 1 yellow-green stitch in green-yellow, slip 1 yellow-green stitch purlwise.
Place the dark blue loop on the needle and knit the next yellow-green sts together through the back loops, then knit 5 sts in yellow-green.** Repeat from * to **.
Row 8: all sts in yellow-green
Rows 9 and 10: stockinette stitch in yellow-green.
Repeat pattern 4 in its entirety, but omit rows 15 and 16.
