We’ve chosen a basic sweater that’s perfect for this online knitting course! In the videos, Petra also uses this sweater as an example. - Cable needles with a Needle Size of 5.5 mm.

Number of balls needed for the main body of the sweater: S=5, M=6, L=7, and XL=8. The Wooladdicts "Butterfly Effect" sweater knitting kit is available in two colors: light brown (color 096) or grey (color 005).
Number of stitches on the bottom edge of the sweater: 1/1/2/2. The Wooladdicts "Butterfly Effect" sweater Knitting Kit is available in the following colors: beige (color 026) or Dark Grey/Black (color 070).

Monday, October 1, 2018 | Episode 1

We've started the knit-along! In this episode, Petra shows you the first steps in knitting a sweater. She'll walk you through the pattern for the Wooladdicts "Butterfly Effect" sweater. The following topics will be covered:

Knitting a gauge swatch: Petra explains why this is important and how to knit a gauge swatch.
Cast on: Cast on the first stitches of the sweater.
Basic Stitch: The basic stitch is the half-brioche stitch; Petra shows you how to knit it.
Color Change: You're going to change colors; you'll see the best way to do this.

First part of the pattern:

Gauge swatch:
Pattern 1, 5.5 mm needles: 14 sts = 10 cm wide, 26 rows = 10 cm high.

Pattern 1:
5.5 mm Knitting Needle: half-brioche stitch in rows (rough, uneven side facing forward). Right side: knit. Wrong side: 1 edge stitch, * 1 knit stitch (stitching the needle 1 row deeper), 1 purl stitch *; repeat from * to *, ending with 1 knit stitch (stitching the needle 1 row deeper), 1 edge stitch. Knit the edge stitch at the end of the row; slip the edge stitch at the beginning of the row.

Monday, October 8, 2018 | Episode 2

Reading the pattern: Petra reads the pattern and explains what to look out for
Decreasing Stitches: Petra points out where the pattern indicates that you need to decrease stitches, and then shows you how to decrease stitches.
Decreasing: Petra demonstrates this in the patterns as well and then proceeds to decrease.
Fixing a mistake (dropping a stitch): Petra (on purpose) drops a stitch and shows how to fix it.
Knitting the front and back: Knit the back and front

Second part of the pattern:

Back piece:
Using beige color 026 (or Dark Grey/Black color 070), cast on 69/75/81/87 stitches on a 5.5 mm needle. Knit in Pattern 1. When the piece measures 12 cm from the cast-on edge, continue knitting in light brown color 096 (or Grey color 005). When the piece measures 39/38/37/35 cm from the cast-on edge (measure with the piece hanging), place a marker on each side and continue knitting in stockinette stitch.

Shoulders:
19/20/21/23 cm from the marker on both sides, decrease 4x5 sts / 2x5 sts + 2x6 / 4x6 sts / 2x6 sts + 2x7 sts every 2nd row.

Neck:
60 cm from the cast-on edge, bind off the remaining 29/31/33/33 stitches.

Front:
Knit the same as the back.

Neck:
At 55/55/54/54 cm from the cast-on, bind off the middle 9/11/13/13 stitches, and on either side of these, bind off 1x3 stitches, 2x2 stitches, and 3x1 stitches on every 2nd row. Bind off the shoulders at the same height and in the same way as for the back.


Monday, October 15, 2018 | Episode 3

Cast on and knit both sleeves:
Petra shows you how to cast on the sleeves. She goes over the pattern with you and demonstrates how to increase stitches. She then continues knitting both sleeves.

Third section of the pattern:
Right sleeve:
Using ochre yellow color 011 (or soft pink color 019 or color 074), cast on 45/47/49/53 stitches on 5.5 mm needles. Knit in Pattern 1. When the piece measures 12 cm from the cast-on, continue to knit with light brown color 096 (or Grey color 005). When the piece measures 30 cm from the cast-on, increase for the sleeve flare on both sides 5x/6x/6x/7x1 stitch every 8th row / alternately every 6th and 8th row / alternately every 6th row = 55/59/61/67 stitches.
Knit the new increased stitches into the pattern. When the piece measures 46 cm from the cast-on edge, loosely bind off all stitches.

Left sleeve:
Knit the same as the right sleeve, but use light brown 096 (or Grey, color 005)

Keep knitting both sleeves so we can assemble the sweater next Monday!
