Join the AdventSter CAL!

AdventSter CAL - December is approaching, which means Advent is here again. Since the Advent calendar is always so much fun, we’ve gotten started on it again this year. Read on to find out all the details and get started. Counting down to Christmas has never been this much fun!

Advent calendars are always fun, and after the success of the 2015 Yarnplaza Advent Calendar, we can’t let this year be any different. Starting December 1, we’ll be giving away a little pattern every day to really get you in the Christmas spirit. Of course, we don’t just hang up decorations for the sake of it, which is why Monique designed this gorgeous poinsettia. So let’s get started!

This star is fun to crochet, decorate, and hang up. The base is crocheted with Katia Alaska acrylic yarn and beautifully finished with a border of ByClaire Sparkle. The crocheted piece is reinforced with cardboard, so you can hang it on your wall, window, or front door!

Round 35: 24 sts, 2 sts in the last st (26 sts)

From here on, we'll divide the stitches into two sections.

Row 47: 1 sc, crochet the last 2 sts together (2 sc)
Row 48: Crochet 2 stitches together

Stitch it up.

For the remaining 13 stitches of row 35, we crochet the same point, but in mirror image.

Row 1: Start in the single crochet next to the last crocheted point (row 35) and crochet 11 single crochets, then crochet the last 2 stitches together. (12 single crochets)
Row 2: Crochet the first 2 sts together, 10 sc. (11 sc.)
Round 3: Crochet the first 2 sts together, 7 sc, crochet the last 2 sts together. (9 sc)
Rows 45: 9 v.

7th round: 6 sc, crochet the last 2 sts together (7 sc)
Row 8: Crochet the first 2 sts together, 3 sc, crochet the last 2 sts together (5 sc)
Rows 9–10: 5 sts.
Round 11: Crochet the first 2 sts together, 1 sc, crochet the last 2 sts together (3 sc)
Row 12: Crochet the first 2 sts together, 1 sc. (2 sc.)
Round 13: Crochet 2 stitches together
14th row: 1 st.
Stitch it up.

Crochet another row of single crochets around each point. At the 3 sharp points, work 2 single crochets, 1 chain stitch, and 2 single crochets in 1 stitch; and at the 2 blunt points, work 2 single crochets in 1 stitch.

Crochet this stitch 5 times.

You now have 5 stitches that we’re going to crochet together with a slip stitch on the right side (outer loop); see the yellow stripes in the illustration. As you do this, pick up the outer loop from the edge with a single crochet from both stitches. You’ll end up with a star with an open center.

Using ByClaire Sparkle yarn and a 5 mm Crochet Hook, we’ll now crochet a lobster stitch along the inside and outside edges of the star.

Pin the star down so it lies nice and flat, making sure all sides are straight, then mist it with the plant sprayer and let it dry.

Once the star is completely dry, place it on a piece of cardboard and trace its outline. Cut out the star, preferably cutting slightly inside the line so that the cardboard won’t show when you glue the crocheted star onto it later.

Finally, cover the cardboard star completely with double-sided tape (including the points), place the crocheted star on top, and press it down firmly.
