"Everything Is Crochet" Cardigan — After the release of her book *Everything Is Crochet*, “the cardigan” quickly became a massive hit. Saskia designed a cardigan that’s easy to adapt to any size and that you can customize with your own creative touch. More than half a year and many cardigans later, it’s time to take stock: What “Everything Is Crochet” cardigans are there?
The cardigan from *Alles is haken* quickly proved to be a huge success. The book, which is packed with colorful Crochet Patterns, is Saskia Laan’s first book. In the book, you’ll find more than 25 patterns for Cushions, Blankets, Ponchos, Lanterns, Flags, and Cardigans. In this blog post, we’ll take an in-depth look at the cardigan and all its variations.
All Crocheted Cardigan
This cardigan is characterized by its simplicity. With no separate front or back panels, the garment is crocheted in one piece. Starting at the neckline, it is crocheted from top to bottom, and the sleeves are attached later. There is a distinctive raised border along the neckline, and the pattern is easy to make in any size.
Below is a list of all of Saskia's cardigans, along with the materials used to make them:
Red cardigan with subtle details
The red cardigan is the one featured in the book *Alles is haken*. It is the basic design created by Saskia. The cardigan is made using a single type of yarn and is crocheted with a single strand. Subtle details like the pocket with a button and the belt at the back really tie it all together.
The second women’s cardigan Saskia made had a slightly different look. The original design took on a fluffier, tunic-style feel. She crocheted a tunic-style border all the way around the edge, which gives it a beautiful finish. Along that border, she added a delicate trim using Durable embroidery thread. The combination of Drops Alpaca and Drops Alpaca Silk gives it a soft look.
After the first successful designs, a new challenge awaited. Saskia loves bobbles—so why not add them to the Cardigan? The bobbles are crocheted using 5 double crochets and are alternated with rows of half double crochets.
This blue cardigan with three-quarter sleeves is the perfect transitional piece. It’s not too thick for summer and not too thin for winter. It’s made from Katia Basic Merino, and the combination of merino and Acrylic makes it wonderfully comfortable.
And because she liked the glitter accent on the green cardigan, Saskia made another glitter cardigan. This time, she used the gold thread from DROPS Glitter and two strands of wool. It turned out to be a nice, chunky cardigan that’s perfect for winter and can be worn as a jacket in the spring and summer. On this cardigan, the waist and sleeves are crocheted in relief stitch, and a border of half double crochets runs along the edge.
In November, Saskia went on a crochet vacation to Spain. A vacation where all you’re allowed to do is crochet—doesn’t that sound wonderful?! She worked on a cardigan there as well, and the result was this roomy cardigan in a pastel shade. The cardigan is nice and roomy, has a small pocket, and the hem is finished with a scalloped edge.
