Best Crochet Yarn & Crochet Hook According to Annemarieshaakblog

For four weeks now, we’ve been seeing wonderful projects by bloggers featured on the Yarnplaza blog. We’ve already seen a baby hat, doilies, stuffed animals, and tea light holders. It’s time for the very last blog post about the crochet favorites of 2013. Annemarieshaakblog wraps up the series. Want to see what she’s made?

Curious about the final results? Read a blog post about Yarnplaza’s best Crochet Yarns here! Using a combination of her favorite Crochet Yarn and another Ball of Yarn, Annemarie from Annemarieshaakblog crocheted a beautiful little animal. Curious to see what it is? Katia Capri "A really lovely yarn. It’s slightly stiffer than similar yarns in this category, but it looks great and is a pleasure to crochet with—perhaps precisely because it feels a little firm. Compared to all the other yarns in this category, it offers excellent value for the price and is my absolute favorite!"

Phildar Phil Coton 3
"This is also a really nice yarn. It stays in great condition, even if you unravel it and start over often."

SMC Catania "This is another very nice yarn. It has a beautiful color and a gorgeous sheen."

Lana Grossa Cotone"This yarn is also a pleasure to crochet with and is of excellent quality."

Rico Aran
It frays a bit faster than other yarns in the same category, but I've noticed that it really depends on the Crochet Hook. Still, I'm going with a different yarn.

Drops Paris My favorite yarn in the size 4/5 Crochet Hook category, but it doesn't quite get five stars because I hear a lot of people complaining that it splits easily. The same advice applies here: try a different Crochet Hook. You'll definitely notice the difference.

Lana Grossa 80 It's a very nice yarn, but since it's quite matte, it's not my favorite. Nevertheless, it's pleasant to crochet with and feels very soft.

Phildar Aviso So soft! That’s the only reason I wanted it. I crocheted a blanket with it, but because of its thickness, it’s a little stiff. Maybe using a larger Crochet Hook than the one listed on the package would give a better result in that regard. It still looks great, even after being unraveled and re-crocheted many times!

Lana Grossa 130 Fine, but it splits easily. Just like with the other yarns, using a different Crochet Hook might be the solution. This yarn also feels very soft!

Rico Essentials Cotton A beautiful yarn and a strong competitor to all other yarns in the same category. I once crocheted a little blanket with it, and it’s been used a lot. It still looks really nice.

Best Crochet Yarn & Crochet Hook

"In the end, I came to the conclusion that Katia Capri is my favorite cotton yarn and the Clover Amour Crochet Hook is my favorite Crochet Hook. And that’s even though I always work a lot with Phildar Cotton 3 and DROPS Paris—and only use Lana Grossa Soft Grip Crochet Hooks—so I’d thought beforehand that I’d go with those. But I didn’t! I really didn’t like the Prym Crochet Hook; I did like the others, but they just didn’t quite measure up to the Clover Crochet Hook!"

"For my final project, I chose a combination of my two favorites: Katia Capri and Phildar Cotton 3. I made a pencil case shaped like a fox. It’s actually a pattern for a kind of pajama cushion, but with this yarn it turned out smaller, so I made a pencil case instead!" Opinions on crochet yarns are divided; last week, Alshakenjeliefis chose Lana Grossa Cotton Mix 30. The Clover Amour appears to be the absolute favorite among Crochet Hooks.
