Katia Capri

"Katia Capri is similar to SMC Catania, Phildar Phil Coton 3, or Lana Grossa Cotone—just a little stiffer, but with the same beautiful sheen: you can easily use them in the same crochet project. Needle Size 3-3.5."

SMC Catania

"Mercerized cotton, regardless of the brand, is the most accessible yarn. Sometimes one color works just a little better than another. With Catania, you can’t really go wrong! Needle Size 3–3.5. I used this together with Philder Coton 3 to make tea light holders."

Phildar Phil Coton 3

"Third in line, but certainly not the least! Very similar to Catania! Needle Size 3-3.5. Used together with Catania for the tea light holder."

Lana Grossa Cotone

Rico Aran

"This is also a really nice yarn; it unravels a little faster than DROPS Paris and is also slightly thinner than its competitor. Beautiful, intense colors, so definitely a good choice! I also crocheted a soap wrapper with this using a size 4 hook."

Rico Essentials Cotton

"I can wholeheartedly say that this is absolutely gorgeous! It does split easily, though, which really stands out because it has such a beautiful sheen. On the other hand, if you crochet with it nicely, it looks fantastic. It’s great for edgings because it’s a pretty eye-catching material with striking colors. I used it for the collar edging on a child’s sweater and on the tea light holder. Crocheted with a 3.5–4 hook."

Phildar Aviso

It frays very quickly and has a slightly matte finish, but if you crochet it neatly, it looks cool. Crocheted around a bar of soap using single crochets. Nice and soft, but stiffer than the Paris yarn. Crocheted with a size 5 hook, but you can use anywhere between a size 4 and 5.

Lana Grossa 80

"A wonderfully thick yarn that feels very soft. I used it to make a cowl with 3 large stars. It's a beautiful yarn that's very easy to crochet with. It hardly splits at all. It has a subtle, light sheen. Crocheted with a 4.5–5.5 hook."

Lana Grossa 130

"Just like its thicker counterpart, this is a great yarn for crocheting clothes! It feels wonderfully soft and has a subtle, light sheen. I used it to make one of the stars on this cowl with a size 4–4.5 hook."

"If I were to choose yarn for a new project, I would mainly go by color when it comes to mercerized Cotton (the first four on the list, because they all pair very well together). My favorite is RICO ESSENTIALS COTTON—I just couldn’t resist it because it has such a beautiful sheen and such lovely colors! I’d definitely like to use Lana Grossa 130 or 180 (depending on what you want to make) again, as long as it comes in beautiful, intense colors!"

"I received the Lana Grossa Softgrip, Prym, Clover Amour, and Lana Grossa Softgrip Special at home. I can be very brief about this: my favorite is the Clover Amour Crochet Hook. It’s super, super nice! My second recommendation would be the Lana Grossa Softgrip."
