Start with a magic ring containing 6 ch.
Round 1: Double all stitches = 12 sc.
2nd round: *1 sc, 2 sc in the next sc* = 18 sc
Round 3: 1 sc, *2 sc in the next sc, 2 sc,* end with 1 sc = 24 sc
4th round: *3 sc, 2 sc in the next sc* = 30 sc
Round 5: 2 sc, *2 sc in the next sc, 4 sc,* end with 2 sc = 36 sc
Round 6: *5 sc, 2 sc in the next sc* = 42 sc
Round 7: 3 sc, * 2 sc in the next sc, 6 sc, * end with 3 sc = 48 sc
Row 8: *7 sc, 2 sc in the next sc* = 54 sc
Continue in this manner until the bottom is the same size as your pot. Once the bottom is large enough, work 1 round in the back loops without increasing. If your pot is straight, continue crocheting without increasing until you reach the top of the pot. If the base is smaller than the top of your pot, increase a few times, spacing them out around the pot, so that the cover fits nicely around it. The first round in which you increase is as follows: *8 sc, 2 sc in the next sc* = 60 sc. So, on every round where you increase, work 1 extra sc between the 2 sc in 1 stitch. That is, 9 sc, 10 sc, 11 sc,.......etc. Continue this until you reach the top of your jar.
In the meantime, switch colors every now and then to create a striped effect.
Finally, finish the cover with a decorative border:
First, make another border using the color of your decorative border.
Close the round with a slip stitch and chain 2 (1st single crochet). Skip 2 stitches, work 5 double crochets in the next stitch, skip 2 stitches, work 1 single crochet, skip 2 stitches, and work 5 double crochets in the next stitch. Continue in this manner until the end, then close the round with a slip stitch in the top of the 2 chain stitches.
