The block stitch, named after the English term “block stitch,” lives up to its name. This cheerful crochet pattern has a sturdy look and can be used, for example, to make trendy cushions or a chic bedspread. Read on here for the pattern and give it a try!
The block stitch isn't very well known in the Netherlands, so we're breathing some (new) life into it here! After all, isn't it fun to try out new stitches?
You can actually use any type of yarn to crochet the block stitch. So feel free to combine bright, vibrant colors or, conversely, deep, muted tones.
If you’re looking for a fun yarn to crochet with, you’ll quickly find that cotton yarns are the way to go. Good choices for Crochet Cotton include Phil Coton 4 or Rico Creative Cotton Aran. Of course, thicker yarns like Lana Grossa Cotton Mix 130 / Cotton Mix 80 or Phildar Aviso are also lovely! Choose a solid color or one with a print. The print adds a nice touch!

There are so many ways to vary the block stitch! It’s great for blankets, baby blankets, or cushions. But why not use it to make a light, airy summer sweater?
Crochet each row in a different color, or keep the double crochets in one color and crochet the chain stitches and single crochets in a different color each time—you'll get a different effect!
