Crocheting the Bobble Stitch - Stitch of the Month

Crocheting the Bobble Stitch - Have you tried the fun bobble stitch yet? This stitch is also known as the popcorn stitch. It’s perfect for blankets, pot holders, and accessories! Read on for the pattern.

There are endless possibilities with the bobble stitch. Since you decide where to crochet the bobbles, you can create any shapes you want—letters, diamonds, circles, stars, or a heart, of course! We’ll crochet a blue-and-pink heart to demonstrate the stitch. Create your own color combinations and shapes, and your project will be completely unique!

Stitches used:
- Single crochet
- Double crochet

Choose a Crochet Hook that matches the thickness of the yarn you're using.

Instructions for Crocheting the Bobble Stitch

This stitch is crocheted on a foundation of single crochets. You crochet this stitch in the return row—that is, on the wrong side of the work—so that the bobble sits nicely on top on the right side of your work. Each bobble consists of 5 double crochets worked together.

Chain a number of chain stitches. First, crochet a few rows of single crochets. Then, in a back row, crochet a bobble as follows: *Finish the last single crochet before your pom-pom with the pom-pom yarn color, yarn over, insert the hook into the next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops, *yarn over, insert the hook into the same stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops.* Repeat *-* 3 more times. There are now 6 loops on the Crochet Hook; now yarn over with the color of your fabric and pull it through all 6 loops**. Continue with this color in single crochet until another Ball appears, then repeat from *-**.
After the round with chain stitches, crochet a round using only single crochets.

As mentioned earlier, you can create a wide variety of patterns using the bobble stitch. A cute little bag made entirely of bobbles, a beautiful (baby) Blanket, or a stylish Cushion for the couch or a chair. We were totally inspired by the images below on Pinterest. Are you curious too?
