Crocheting Cacti - 4 Free Crochet Patterns

Crochet Cacti - Trend Alert! Cacti are all the rage and a must-have for your trendy home. You have to love this prickly, colorless beauty, so we’re offering this soft alternative. These crocheted cacti are soft, cuddly, and colorful—and all you have to do is follow the pattern!

Cute, little cacti are all the rage right now! To jump on this trend, we’re crocheting these cuddly little guys. There are four different patterns, so there’s plenty of variety. These little plants are perfect even for those without a green thumb!
To get the right “cactus colors,” we used different types of Yarn. The shades of green from Yarn and Colors Baby Fabulous work well for this desert plant, but Yarn and Colors Epic also has beautiful, suitable shades. Of course, we finish off the little cacti with cheerful flowers made from Yarn and Colors Must-have.

Materials for crocheting a cactus:

- 1 ball of Yarn and Colors Baby Fabulous, color 079
- 1 ball of Yarn and Colors Epic, color 123 Fern
- 2 balls of Yarn and Colors Epic 028 Soil
- 1 ball of Yarn and Colors Must-have 014 Sunflower, 032 Pepper, 034 Deep Cerise, and 087 Amazon
- Crochet Hooks, sizes 2 mm, 2.5 mm, and 3.5 mm
- Small pots, 7 cm in diameter, 7 cm tall (available at Action, among other places)
- Stuffing

l. = chain stitch
hv. = slip stitch
v. = single
crochet = half double crochet

Crochet Pattern for cacti:

Earth

Yarn and Colors Epic 028 Soil, size 3.5 Crochet Hook
The little crocheted ball of earth in the pot is the same for every pot.
Start with a magic ring containing 6 ch.

Round 1: Double all sts. (12 sts.)
2nd round: *1 sc, 2 sc in the next st.* (18 sc)
Round 3: *2 sc, 2 sc in next st.* (24 sc)
4th round: *3 sc, 2 sc in next st.* (30 sc)
5th round: *4 sc, 2 sc in the next st.* (36 sc)
6th round: *5 sc, 2 sc in next st.* (42 sc)
Round 7: *6 sc, 2 sc in the next st.* (48 sc)
Rows 8 through 11: 48 sts.
Row 12: *6 sc, crochet the 7th and 8th sts together* (42 sc)
Row 13: *5 sc, crochet the 6th and 7th sts together* (36 sc)
Row 14: *4 sc, crochet the 5th and 6th sts together* (30 sc)
Round 15: *3 sc, crochet the 4th and 5th sts together* (24 sc)
Row 16: *2 sc, crochet the 3rd and 4th sts together* (18 sc)
Fill the ball.
Row 17: *1 sc, crochet the 2nd and 3rd sts together* (12 sc)
Round 18: *crochet 2 sts together* (6 sc)
Pull a thread through the last stitch, pull the thread tight, and fasten off.

Cactus with flowers

Yarn and Colors Baby Fabulous, color 079, and size 2.5 crochet hook
Crochet a chain of 25 stitches.

Round 1: Start in the 2nd ch. from the Crochet Hook and work 24 sc., 1 ch.
Rows 2 through 20: 24 sc in the back loops.
Now close the piece by joining the 1st row to row 20 and crocheting a chain stitch.
Thread a piece of string through one open end, pull it tight, and tie it off.
Fill the cactus and secure it in the soil in the pot.

Crochet 10 single crochets into a magic ring.

Round 1: 2 ch., 1 dc, 1 hdc, in the same st., sl st in the next st., *1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc, in the next st., 1 sl st in the next st.* Repeat 3 more times. Fasten off.
Make the center of the flower using thread no. 77 (1440 Soleil) and embroider a double cross stitch.
Attach the flowers to the cactus.

Yarn and Colors Must-have 087 Amazon, crochet hook size 2.5
Magic ring with 6 sts.

Round 1: Double all sts. (12 sts.)
2nd round: *1 sc, 2 sc in the next st.* (18 sc)
Round 3: *2 sc, 2 sc in next st.* (24 sc)
4th round: *3 sc, 2 sc in next st.* (30 sc)
Rows 5 through 13: 30 sc. Fasten off.
Now shape the cactus; try to squeeze it into 3 equal parts.
Put a very small amount of stuffing in the center of the cactus—not too much, or it will become too round. Place it on the soil in the pot.

Crochet a chain of 13 stitches.

Round 1: Start in the 2nd ch. from the Crochet Hook and work 12 dc., 1 sl st.
Rows 2 through 26: 12 sc in the back loops.
Now close the piece by joining the 1st row to row 26 and crocheting a chain stitch. Pull a thread through one open side, pull it tight, and fasten off. Stuff the ball and close the other side as well. Attach the ball to the cactus.

Yarn and Colors Epic, color 123 Fern, crochet hook size 3.5
Crochet a chain of 20 stitches.

Round 1: Start in the 2nd ch. from the Crochet Hook and work 19 sc., 1 sl st.
Rows 2 through 32: 19 sc in the back loops.
Now close the piece by joining the 1st row to row 32 and crocheting a row of chain stitches. Pull a thread through one open side, pull it tight, and fasten off. Stuff the ball and close the other side as well. Attach the cactus to the soil.

Magic ring with 6 sts.

Rows 1 through 2: 6 sc.
Round 3: Crochet this round in the back loops. 1 sl st, *12 ch, 1 sl st in the next stitch.* Repeat *-* 5 more times, then join with a sl st in the same stitch where you started Round 3, but in the front loop.
Row 4: Crochet this row in the same stitch as Row 3, but in the front loops. *Ch 12, 1 sl st in the next st.* Repeat *-* 5 more times. Fasten off. Now secure a few more strands of yarn in the center of the flower. Attach the flower to the cactus.

Cactus 4x

Yarn and Colors Must-have 087 Amazon, crochet hook size 2.5
Magic ring with 6 sts.

Round 1: Double all sts. (12 sts.)
2nd round: *1 sc, 2 sc in the next st.* (18 sc)
Rows 3 through 7: 18 sc (small, cactus 1)
Rows 3 through 11: 18 sc (large, cactus 2)

Magic ring with 6 sts.
Round 1: Double all sts. (12 sts.)
Rows 2 through 9: 12 sc (small, cactus 3)
Rows 2 through 15: 12 sc (large, cactus 4)
Fill the cacti and secure them to the soil.
