The cactus is crocheted using two strands of yarn; you can take one strand from the outside and one from the inside of the Ball to crochet with. You crochet back and forth. Round 1: Using a 5mm crochet hook and double strands of Kelly Green yarn, chain 45. Continue crocheting with a 4.5mm Crochet Hook. Work 44 half double crochets into the chain (44).
Round 2: Now chain 44, but insert the hook into the slanted loop on the back of the half double crochet from the previous round; this will cause the V-shapes of your stitches to face the front of your work (44).
Round 3: Crochet 44 hst (44).
Rounds 4 through 29: Repeat in the even rows (row 2) and in the odd rows (row 3).
