Corner-to-Corner Crochet: A Cheerful Flamingo

Corner-to-corner crocheting is trendy and so much fun! Follow your favorite pixel pattern and make the most beautiful pot holders, rugs, and blankets in no time. Not familiar with the technique yet, or looking for some Tips? Read all the ins and outs here and watch the video for a step-by-step guide!

Crocheting corner-to-corner is the best way to turn your favorite pixel pattern into a beautiful crochet project. Draw your favorite pattern on a sheet of graph paper, follow the drawing using the corner-to-corner stitch, and in no time you’ll have a cute blanket, a beautiful rug, or a cool pot holder!

When crocheting corner-to-corner, you work diagonally. Your pattern starts in the lower right corner. You continue crocheting from the corner, and your project gets bigger and bigger. How big? That’s up to you! Because the stitch consists of squares, you can’t use it to make a round project, but you can create both square and rectangular designs.

While crocheting, Annemarie was completely in her element: "Corner-to-corner crocheting is addictive."

In this example, we’ll crochet a flamingo using Stylecraft Special DK, a 100% acrylic yarn. Acrylic yarn is a great choice for corner-to-corner crocheting, but you can also use other types of yarn, such as Cotton and Wool, for this technique.

Now flip your work over so that you’re facing the 3 chain stitches from step 1. Chain 1. Chain 3 (first slip stitch). Work 3 double crochets around the 3 chain stitches from step 1.

Step 3:
Chain 6 (the first 3 are the first double crochets); work 1 double crochet in the 4th chain stitch from the Crochet Hook. Work 1 double crochet in each of the last two chain stitches. Now flip your work over so that you’re facing the 3 chain stitches from the last block in Step 2. Work 1 slip stitch. Chain 3 (first double crochet). Crochet 3 double crochets around the 3 chain stitches from Step 2. Crochet 1 slip stitch. Chain 3 (first double crochet). To change colors, crochet a slip stitch using the new color.
If you continue using the same color on the return row, you can leave the yarn hanging and pick it up again when you reach the same point on the return row.
