Crochet Cupid for Valentine's Day

Crochet Cupid - Valentine’s Day, the holiday full of hearts, love, and treats, is just around the corner. Of course, it’s fun to spoil your Valentine with a gift—and how much more fun is it when you’ve made it yourself? This Cupid is the perfect little figure, complete with a little envelope for your secret message. Read on for the free pattern!

February 14 is the day to spoil your Valentine! Long love poems, a big bouquet of red roses, or a box of chocolates—isn’t that wonderful? Of course, it’s also fun to make a gift yourself, which is why Annemarie designed this cute Cupid. The sweet little angel is holding a small envelope that can actually hold something… what will you put in your love letter?

Cupid Crochet Pattern

Tip: To make sure you don't lose track of the beginning of the row, it's helpful to use a Stitch Marker. Hook it onto the first single crochet of each row and carry it up with you every row.

Due to its size, this figure is not suitable for children under 3 years of age!

Body and Mind

The body and head are crocheted from a single piece. You start crocheting at the bottom of the body.

Round 1: Using Marble (102), make a magic ring of 6 sc, or do it this way: Crochet 2 chains, then crochet 6 sc in the first chain, and slip stitch into the first sc (6 sc).
Round 2: Crochet 2 single crochets in each single crochet (12).
Round 3: Crochet 2 single crochets in every 2nd single crochet (18).
Round 4: Crochet 2 sc in every 3rd sc (24).
Round 5: Crochet 24 (24)
Round 6: Crochet 2 single crochets in every 4th single crochet (30).
Row 7: Change to Pearl (043). Crochet this row in the back loops only, so that a few loops appear on the right side of your work. Crochet 30 single crochets (30).
Round 8: Make 6 decreases. Crochet every 4th and 5th st together (24).
Round 9: Crochet 24 (24).
Round 10: Make 6 decreases. Crochet every 3rd and 4th st together (18).
Rows 11 and 12: Crochet 18 single crochets (18).
Round 13: Make 6 decreases. Crochet every 2nd and 3rd st together (12).
Rows 14 through 16: Crochet 12 single crochets in each row (12).

Stuff the bodice firmly with stuffing.

Round 17: Make 6 decreases. Crochet the stitches together 2 at a time (6).
Round 18: Crochet 2 sc in each sc (12).
Round 19: Crochet 12 single crochets (12).
Row 20: Crochet 2 single crochets in every 2nd single crochet (18).
Round 21: Crochet 2 single crochets in every 6th single crochet (21).
Rows 22 through 25: Crochet 21 sc in each sc (21).
Row 26: Make 3 decreases. Crochet the 6th and 7th sts together (18).
Round 27: Make 6 decreases. Crochet every 2nd and 3rd st together (12).

Stuff the head firmly with stuffing.

Round 28: Make 6 decreases. Crochet the stitches 2 at a time (6).
Finish up. Pull the end thread through the last six stitches to close the hole. Weave the end thread into the fabric.

Now attach a new strand of Marble (102) to the outer loops of row 7. Stitch your Crochet Hook into the loops from below.

Round 1: Crochet 30 (30).
Round 2: Crochet 30 (30).

Haren

Round 1: Using Sunflower (014), make a magic ring of 6 sc, or do it this way: Crochet 2 chains, then crochet 6 sc in the first chain, and slip stitch into the first sc (6 sc).
2nd row: From here on, crochet all remaining rows in the back loops so that a few loops form on the outside of your work. Crochet 2 single crochets in each single crochet (12).
Round 3: Crochet 2 single crochets in every 2nd single crochet (18).
Round 4: Crochet 2 single crochets in every 6th single crochet (21).
Round 5: Crochet 2 single crochets in every 7th single crochet (24)
Rows 6 and 7: Crochet 24 single crochets in each row (24). Fasten off. Leave a long tail attached to your work so you can sew the little wig in place later.

Now attach a new strand of yarn to the first outer loop of Row 2. Insert your Crochet Hook into the loops, starting from Row 1. Now crochet *1 sl st, chain 5, 1 sl st in the first ch, 1 sl st in the second stitch*. Repeat from * to * through Row 7.
Then neatly weave in the beginning and ending threads. Secure the little wig to the angel's head by single crocheting small stitches all around into the single loops of row 7.

Cupid Crochet: Free Crochet Pattern

Wings

Round 1: Using Ice Blue (063), make a magic ring of 6 sc, or do it this way: Crochet 2 chains, then crochet 6 sc in the first chain, and slip stitch into the first sc (6 sc).
Round 2: Crochet 2 single crochets in each single crochet (12).
Round 3: Crochet 2 single crochets in every 2nd single crochet (18).
Round 4: Crochet 2 sc in every 3rd sc (24).

Now fold your crocheted circle in half and close this half-circle all around with 12 sc. Chain 1, turn your work. * Now crochet 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 sc in the first stitch, 1 sl st in the 2nd stitch*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the round, then fasten off.

Now attach the wings to the back with a few single crochets in the center. Emphasize the center by adding an extra stitch between the middle arches.

Little Envelope

Using Pepper (032), chain 9. Now crochet into the chain.

Round 1: Crochet 2 sc in the first ch, crochet 6 sc, crochet 4 sc in the last ch. Now continue working on the other side of the chain. Crochet 6 sc and finish with 2 sc in the last ch (20).
Rows 2 through 7: Crochet 20 single crochets in each row (20).
Row 8: Crochet 12, crochet 1 single crochet. Turn your work.
Round 9: Crochet 10 stitches, then crochet 1 slip stitch. Turn your work.
Round 10: Crochet the first and last 2v together (8). Crochet 1 chain stitch, turn your work.
Round 11: Crochet the first and last 2v together (6). Crochet 1 chain stitch, turn your work.
Round 12: Crochet the first and last 2v together (4). Crochet 1 chain stitch, turn your work.
Round 13: Crochet the first and last 2v together (2). Crochet 1 chain stitch, turn your work.
Round 14: Crochet the last 2 dc together (1). Now chain 1, then crochet along the tip of the envelope to Round 8. Crochet along the edge of the envelope with sl sts until you reach the other side of the tip, then crochet dc up to the tip of the envelope. Finish at the tip with 1 ch and 1 sl st in the tip. Fasten off. Neatly weave in all ends.

Sew the envelope to the angel's belly with a small stitch. Make sure the bottom of the envelope aligns with the bottom of the angel's body.

Legs

Crochet with Pearl (043) a chain of 7.

Round 1: Crochet 2 sc in the first ch, crochet 4 sc, crochet 4 sc in the last ch. Continue crocheting on the other side of the chain. Crochet 4 sc and finish with 2 sc in the last ch (16).
Round 2: Crochet 16 single crochets (16).
Round 3: Make 3 decreases. Crochet the 7th and 8th, 9th and 10th, and 11th and 12th sts together (13).
Round 4: Make 3 decreases. Crochet the 5th and 6th, 7th and 8th, and 9th and 10th sts together (10).
Rows 5 through 11: Crochet 10 single crochets in each row (10).

Stuff the leg firmly with stuffing.

Crochet another leg just like the first one. Attach the legs to the pants. Use the envelope to determine the position of the legs. Attach the bottom tip of the envelope to the inside of the legs.

Arms

Round 1: Using Pearl (043), make a magic ring of 6 sc, or do it this way: Crochet 2 chains, then crochet 6 sc in the first chain, and slip stitch into the first sc (6 sc).
Round 2: Crochet 2 single crochets in each single crochet (12).
Rows 3 and 4: Crochet 12 sc in each row (12).
Round 5: Make 3 decreases. Crochet every 3rd and 4th st together (9).
Rows 6 through 8: Crochet 9 single crochets in each row (9).
Round 9: Make 3 decreases. Crochet every 2nd and 3rd st together (6).

Stuff the arm firmly with stuffing.

10th row: Fold the end flat and crochet it closed with a slip stitch.

Crochet another arm just like the first one. Single crochet the arms to the sides of the body. Single crochet the hands to the corners at the top of the envelope.

Halo

Using Ice Blue (063), crochet a chain of 20. Join the chain into a loop by crocheting 1 slip stitch in the first chain.
Now crochet around the chain of chain stitches. Crochet 30 single crochets. Fasten off. Use the end of the yarn to secure the halo to the top of the head with a small stitch.

Now embroider 100 eyes on the face using Black (100). Embroider a little nose on the face using Pearl (043) and a little mouth using Pepper (032).
