Are you up for an incredibly exciting competition where you won’t take your eyes off your Crochet Hooks for a second? One where you can let your creativity shine (and maybe even land a spot on the podium)? Then we’ve got just the thing for you! In the third season of “Yarnplaza Seeks: The Haakster,” we’re on the hunt for crochet talent in the Netherlands and Belgium. We’re incredibly curious to see what kinds of stitches, patterns, and color combinations you, as an avid crocheter, have in your repertoire!

All the ins and outs
We’re kicking off Season 3 during the upcoming sunny summer months. What can you expect? In the competition, you’ll receive various challenges that vary in size, difficulty, and degree of creative freedom. We’ll provide the materials and necessary information for each challenge, and you’ll do your very best to show us your crocheting skills. You’ll also vlog about all your ups and downs during this exciting crocheting adventure, from start to finish. We can’t wait!
With crafts, it’s all about having fun. Not only does the activity itself provide relaxation and enjoyable moments, but the end result also puts a smile on your face. So it’s definitely not a bad hobby! But since this is a competition and we’d like to reward you for your hard work, we’re also offering a prize. A really great prize, we might add!

If you crochet your heart out for us (figuratively speaking, of course!), we’d be more than happy to reward you for it. So if you make it to the podium and take first place, we’ll award you (drumroll...) the title “Haakster 2020” and a collaboration with Yarnplaza worth €1,000; a collaboration where you can create various crochet designs to your heart’s content that will cross the border between the Netherlands and Belgium, and which we’ll promote and sell internationally. Not too shabby, right?! Do I hear “international fame” over there? :)

What skill level do you need to participate in the contest?
It’s important that you be able to conceptualize a project on your own and design, write out, and digitally develop patterns. And, if necessary, create a digital count drawing to go with it. It’s also important that you make neat stitches and can neaten up loose threads.

How much time will you get for the contest assignments?
It depends, of course, on how quickly you can come up with and work out (crochet) your pattern. But this contest takes time. The time you’re given for each assignment depends on how far you get. At first, we’ll start with one week per assignment. That means the assignments will also be small. As the contest progresses, the assignments will become larger and more challenging, and you’ll be given more time to complete them.

What kinds of challenges can I expect?
We’re, of course, looking for the 2020 Haakster, who must naturally be a jack-of-all-trades. The challenges will therefore vary widely—from techniques to Amigurumi, and from home decor to baby items.

I'm from Belgium—can I participate too?
Absolutely! You're more than welcome to enter the contest. However, it's important that you are fluent in Dutch/Flemish.

Can I sign someone up or nominate them for the contest?
You can’t just sign someone up or nominate them—they have to give their consent to participate. The registration form includes several personal questions that need to be answered. It’s also important that they have time in their schedule to take part in the contest. But of course, you can still suggest someone to participate! :)
