Program Synopsis: Yarnplaza Is Looking For: The Netherlands' Top Haakster
So, the first episode will air on the Yarnplaza YouTube channel on Friday, October 5, and a new episode will be posted online every Friday after that. The contestants are competing for the honorary title of “The Haakster of the Netherlands” and €500 in store credit. During the competition, the Haakster STARS will receive various crochet challenges, each with its own theme. For each challenge, they’ll design their own pattern and get crocheting. The crochet creation must be finished by the deadline. The creation will then be judged by the Yarnplaza jury, who will decide who moves on and who, unfortunately, is eliminated. You can follow this exciting, educational, and fun crochet competition every step of the way. All participants vlog about their crocheting adventures—from unboxing the yarns for the new project to the creative process and the final result! Each episode is hosted by Yarnplaza’s “pink thread,” Petra, who takes you along on this adventure. At the start of each episode, Petra brings you up to speed and explains the crocheting challenge the contestants must complete. You’ll get to know the contestants well as they take you along on their crochet adventure. You’ll witness the challenges, emotions, fun, and crochet talents of the 10 contestants. Then, of course, you’ll see the final crochet creations and the judges’ reviews. In short, an exciting, educational, and creative crochet competition that you won’t want to miss!

The Haakster STARS
These 10 women have one thing in common: they love crocheting, make beautiful creations, and would love nothing more than to spend the whole day working on their favorite hobby. We’d like to introduce them to you—here they are:

?Besides crocheting, I definitely have other hobbies as well, such as hiking, doing puzzles, skiing, and watching TV (though always with a crochet or knitting project in my hands). My passion for crocheting began at a young age. Even as a child, I crocheted a lot—doilies, curtains in filet crochet (which was all the rage back then). I’m a creative person and love seeing something beautiful come to life from my hands. A new item or technique means a new challenge. In recent years, I’ve been making lots of rugs and blankets, clothing, and an original set of 90 crocheted Christmas cards. I’m really looking forward to this challenge from Yarnplaza: “The Haakster of the Netherlands”!

?Hi! I’m from Belgium, and I’m super excited to have the chance to compete for a star in the crochet firmament (crochet heaven)! As a child, I caught the creativity bug, and it’s only gotten better since then. My granny (grandma) taught me how to crochet, and ever since then, I’ve loved making original little things. For me, it’s also a way to find peace. I love sharing my knowledge and skills through my blog, Koekjes & Boekjes, through my workshops at Het Betere Bolwerk, and of course through the vlogs I get to make for you all. I’m looking forward to it!

? I’m happily married to Rob, and we have three children. I’ve been creative since I was a little girl. My mom taught me how to crochet (and knit). Amigurumi is my favorite—especially bears. These days, I’m also really into making Cushions, Blankets, and Shawls. Well, what don’t I like, really? You’ll find an (unfinished) project in just about every corner of my house. Crocheting—especially now that I do it for more than 7 hours a day—brings me peace. I took on this challenge thinking, “It’s not going to work,” and here I am. Where will this lead?

? Hi! I’m 28 years old. I love being able to crochet such beautiful things from a single strand of yarn—it’s almost like magic. There are so many possibilities with crochet that you can always bring all your ideas to life. I keep trying until I get it right! What I enjoy most is creating my own patterns, so that I can make something truly unique. I mostly crochet stuffed animals, but I also like to challenge myself and take on bigger projects.

? Hi, I’m 27 years old and I live in Utrecht. Crocheting started out as a small hobby, but it’s since become a fun addiction. I’d even go so far as to say that I crochet every day now! It’s wonderful to be able to make something for others. Knowing that I can make someone else happy with something I’ve made myself from start to finish gives me a great sense of fulfillment. I especially enjoy crocheting for babies. There are so many cute things to make! I love it, and I’m so happy and proud that I can crochet!

? I learned to crochet from my mom; crocheting is more than just a hobby—it’s my way of life! I’m married to Henk, who thinks crocheting is pretty cool. I’m the mom of two teenagers, who definitely don’t think crocheting is cool at all!! And I’m the owner of four cats, who really love lounging on the crocheted blankets. There was always a spot where I could crochet to have a moment to myself in our busy family—a little time in my own bubble, a moment of peace. At judo, swimming lessons, and rugby practice. At first, people look at you strangely, but then they ask if I’m knitting or making a loom bag. “This is crocheting… look, a Crochet Hook.” Then come the stories: “How nice—my mom or grandma used to do that, too!”

? Hey! I’m 32 years old and live in Ermelo. In my day-to-day life, I work at the swimming pool, where I teach all the classes offered there. Besides my job, I’ve been crocheting a lot wherever I can for about 10 years now. You name it—I take my crochet with me everywhere. It comes along on long trips, to Birthday parties, on the train, and even to the bar. I especially love working with the brightest colors out there. I absolutely love the creative process of turning a ball of yarn into a rug or a shawl. Designing patterns hasn’t really taken off yet, but I want to change that now—there’s certainly no shortage of ideas in my head!

? Hi! I’m 23 years old and got married to Niels three years ago. Together, we have a little daughter who’s almost two, Ninthe. You’ll probably see her pop by sometime! I was bored during my maternity leave. My mom had been crocheting for years and was working on a little blanket for my baby at the time. I got the itch too, and that’s when I tried crocheting for the first time. I haven’t stopped since. What I love most about crocheting is combining colors and creating something beautiful from a single strand of yarn. I’m really looking forward to entering this crochet contest.

? I’m 35 years old, married, and have two children. My day job is as a Customer Service representative, but my side job—and biggest hobby—is crocheting. I really love making cuddly toys, and our two kids are a great excuse to make them. I also love crocheting blankets—you can never have too many! The one thing I haven’t really done yet—aside from a few small projects—is designing something myself. That’s also why I decided to enter this contest. Although I’m really nervous about it, I also hope this contest will motivate me to design more on my own.

The Haakster of the Netherlands
? Hi! I’m 46 years old and live with my husband and our four kids in the beautiful village of Terwolde. Crocheting is my biggest hobby. For me, it’s a way to relax amid the hustle and bustle of our family life and take some time for myself. I love crocheting clothes, usually in soft colors, both for myself and for my kids. Sometimes I come up with and design something myself, and other times I crochet from a pattern. I crochet very much by feel—my mind comes up with the idea and my hands bring it to life... it’s wonderful!
