If you want to make the crocheted blanket wider, start with a chain that is divisible by 36 + 9 + 1 extra for turning. This number of stitches is based on the 3rd filet Crochet Pattern (middle row). Note: If you make the blanket larger or smaller, this calculation will still work for the middle band, but you’ll need to adjust the other stitches and filet Crochet Patterns accordingly, and they may not always work out exactly.
If you want to make the knitted blanket wider, you can download a chart here that explains how to increase the number of stitches to make the blanket 25 cm, 50 cm, 75 cm, or 100 cm wider.

Can I use a different type of yarn to crochet the Dream Blanket 5.0?
You can use a different type of yarn to crochet the blanket. In that case, pay close attention to the yarn's thickness and length. The thickness of the yarn affects how many meters of yarn you'll need and the final size of your blanket.
You’ll need about 3,500 meters of yarn for the crochet blanket. The easiest thing to do is to choose a yarn that’s similar in thickness to the original yarn. To do this, look at the stitch ratio—in this case, 22 stitches by 30 rows. Then, calculate the number of balls you’ll need based on the length of the ball you choose.
Good alternatives to Yarn and Colors Joy include the 100% Acrylic yarn Stylecraft Special DK, a Cotton-Acrylic mix such as Yarn and Colors Baby Fabulous or Yarn and Colors Charming, or a 100% Wool yarn such as Yarn and Colors Serene. Use a Gauge swatch to determine which needles you’ll need for your desired size. When changing stitches, also make sure your blanket stays neat and doesn’t start to pull or pucker.
