Crocheting Espadrilles for King's Day

Crochet Espadrilles - Do you also love strolling through flea markets on King’s Day? Or are you out partying in the park or on the square? With these espadrilles, made especially for King’s Day, you can experience it all in royal style! Totally on-trend and handmade—how wonderful is that?

These espadrilles are a treat for the eyes—and for your feet! We use Yarn and Colors’ Epic cotton yarn, which is sturdy and feels nice and soft. No one else will be wearing these shoes because it’s a unique DIY project. Turn heads on King’s Day with these espadrilles and be the princess at the ball!

What do you need to make the espadrilles?

Materials:

- 1 ball of Yarn and Colors Epic in colors 001 (White), 068 (Blue), 032 (Red), and 020 (Orange)
- 1 ball of Yarn and Colors Must-have, color 020
- 1 pair of Prym espadrille soles
- Knitted Elastic
- Wool Needle

Stitches used:
chain stitches = ch.
slip stitch = hv.
fasting = v.
non-recurring = non-rec.
stitch = st.

Crochet Pattern for Holland Espadrilles:

Toe width for shoe sizes 36, 37, 38, and 39
Start with the color red Yarn and Colors Epic. Begin with 5 ch. and 1 sl st.

Round 1: Double the first and last stitches = 7 v.
2nd round: double the first and last sts = 9 sts.
3rd round: double the first and last sts = 11 sts.
4th row: in the first and last sts, 3 sc = 15 sc
5th round: double the first and last sts = 17 sts.
Round 6: Double the first and last sts = 19 sts.
7th round: 19 sts.
8th round: double the first and last sts = 21 sts.
9th round: double the first and last sts = 23 sts.
Row 10: 23 sts. Change to White.
Round 11: Double the first and last sts = 25 sts.
Round 12: 25 sts.
Round 13: Double the first and last sts = 27 sts.
14th round: 27 sts.
Round 15: Double the first and last sts = 29 sts.
Round 16: 29 sts.
Round 17: Double the first and last sts = 31 sts.
18th round: 31 sts.
Round 19: Double the first and last sts = 33 sts.
Rows 20 through 24: 33 sts. Change to Blue.
Row 25: Double the first and last sts = 35 sts.
Rows 26 through 29: 35 sts.
Row 30: 10 sc, 15 ch, 10 sc
Row 32: 3 sts, 1 sl st, (no turn) turn.
Row 33: Skip 1 st., 1 sl st., 2 dc. Fasten off.
Repeat rows 32 and 33 on the other side.

Toe of the shoe, sizes 40, 41, and 42
: Start with 5 sts and 1 row. Begin with the Red Yarn and Colors Epic yarn.

Rows 1 through 16: See shoe toe for sizes 36 through 39.
Round 17: Double the first and last sts = 31 sts.
18th round: 31 sts.
Round 19: Double the first and last sts = 33 sts.
Row 20: 33 sts. Change to Blue.
Row 21: Double the first and last stitches = 35 sts.
22nd round: 35 sts.
Row 23: Double the first and last sts = 37 sts.
Rows 24 through 27: 37 sts.
Row 28: Double the first and last sts = 39 sts.
Rows 29 through 32: 39 sts.
Row 33: 12 sc, 15 ch, 12 sc
Row 34: 5 sts, 1 sl st, (no turn) turn.
Row 35: Skip 1 st., 1 sl st., 4 dc.
Row 36: 1 sc, 1 sl st, fasten off.
Repeat rows 34 through 36 on the other side.

Crown:
Crochet the crown separately and attach it to the white part of the shoe using a sewing needle. Start with 8 ch. and 1 single crochet.
Rows 1 through 3: 8 sts.
4th row: 7 ch., single crochet in the 3rd st., 8 ch., skip 2 sts and single crochet in the next st., 7 ch., single crochet in the last st., turn the work once.
Row 5: 8 sc in the first 7 ch, 4 sc in the next space, 3 ch, 1 sl st in the first ch of the 3 ch, 4 sc, 8 sc in the next space. Fasten off.

Heel sizes 36 through 42
. Start with orange Yarn and Colors Epic.
Start with 70 sts + 1 st (this st is repeated after every row)

Rows 1 through 2: 70 sts.
Round 3: Crochet the first 2 sts together, 27 sc, crochet 2 sts together, 3 sc, crochet 2 sts together, 3 sc, crochet 2 sts together, 27 sc, crochet 2 sts together = 65 sc.
4th round: 65 sts.
Round 5: 27 sc, 2 dc together, 7 sc, 2 dc together, 27 sc = 63 sc
6th round: 63 sts.
Round 7: 26 sc, 2 sts together, 7 sc, 2 sts together, 26 sc = 61 sc
8th round: 61 sts.
Row 9: 25 sc, 2 sts together, 7 sc, 2 sts together, 25 sc = 59 sc
10th row: Starting with this row, pick up the knitting elastic along with your yarn. 8 ch., 43 sts., 8 ch., fasten off and turn.
Row 11: Join your yarn to the 15th st. from the beginning, make a sl st., 9 sc., crochet 2 st. together, 7 sc., crochet 2 st. together, 9 sc., 1 sl st. = 29 st., fasten off and turn.
Row 12: Join your yarn to the first stitch of the middle 29 stitches, 3 sl sts, 23 dc, 3 sl sts = 29 stitches, fasten off and turn.
Row 13: Join your yarn to the 8th st. of the middle 29 sts, 1 sl st, 1 sc, crochet 2 sts together, 7 sc, crochet 2 sts together, 1 sc, 1 sl st = 13 sts, fasten off and turn.
Row 14: Join your yarn to the first stitch of the middle 13 stitches, 3 sl sts, 7 sc, 3 sl sts, fasten off. Now thread a double strand of knitted Elastic through the top across the entire width of the heel, pull it tight, and secure it.

Finish with a lobster stitch border, working from left to right across the entire width of the heel. Attach a strand of yarn to the left of your work. Now crochet to the right of the next stitch and make a single crochet. Crochet to the right of your last stitch and make a single crochet. Repeat this until the end of your row.

First, pin the heel to the sole, and then the toe—which should overlap the heel slightly. Secure everything to the sole using a blanket stitch with Yarn and Colors Must-have tone and a needle. Finally, join the toe and heel along the sides of the shoe using single crochet.
